DSC works at high speed?

Colleagues,

let us know if some of you experienced high-speed rotation (110Mi/h(180km/h+)) after loosing direction to prevent road collision?

One friend of mine is complaining that DSC/TSC didn't help, he have had a good side drift and only his skills had helped him to avoid accident.

Button DSC wasn't depressed and the system works well when testing at low speeds. Are there any threshold by speed with this systems or this is something else we might to know about DSC/TSC?

Thank you in advance and

Best regards from other side of Earth and RX8 Russian happy (mostly) owners!

What you mean, you think it was good by something to have car spinning? Everybody reckon that its better not to let the car spin at all!

I think what he was trying to say was that if it weren't for the DSC he would have crashed.

I can testify that the DSC works at any speed on any surface. Very recently I was driving my 8 at nearly 100mph on a dirt road. There was a sharp turn in the road that I had forgotten about, and I ended up entering this turn around 70-80mph. If it weren't for the DSC I would have left that crash scene in a jar.

The DSC works anywhere, at any speed. I'm pretty sure it saved your friend - he just didn't notice it. The RX-8's DSC is pretty transparent. If you know how to counter-steer and manage the throttle in a slide, it won't get in your way.

He convinced that he didn't felt any help of system at that speed, that conditions!

After he experienced the same slide by artificial way, sure, at lower speeds, the system roughly limited his attemts!

It saved me from a guard rail on a 90 degree turn in the rain.........doing about 50mph. I'm convinced.

There's a good chance that the DSC noticed that your friend was counter-steering into the slide properly, as well as maintaining good throttle control, and chose not to get in the way.

I've let the tail end go out on dirt roads before and the DSC light will flicker, but it wont do anything until I tap the brakes, at which point it will take over and put my *** back behind me. Mazda designed the DSC with decent drivers in mind. A very small number of drivers have actually gotten INTO accidents due to the DSC/TCS systems of a car suddenly taking over the controls while the driver is counter-steering, and they get thrown awry because they weren't expecting the car to take over the controls so abruptly.

In fact, Car & Driver magazine once drove a $1,000,000 USD Ferrari into a wall because the computers abruptly re-gripped the car while they were trying to take a drifting photo!

Your friend's DSC probably saw that your friend was doing all that he could, saw that he was doing his best to get the car back under control, and decided to let him do his own thing. Ask your friend if he ever hit the brakes while trying to recover - a tap of the brakes seems to be the "green light" for the DSC that you want it's help...
