Door handles

I know this is a really minor point BUT don't you think the door handles are really boring? For a car with so many subtle and gorgeous design cues all over I find the door handles a tad average.

But, no fear. I've had an idea. It might be a rotary accent too far but try to imagine this...

Take a chrome/alloy rotor symbol with the point of the triangle facing the hinges of the door and the base of the triangle lining up with the opening edge of the door, top to bottom. The inner circle of the rotor symbol is body colour.

You push the middle circle in (everything is flush with the door skin before this point) and the chrome/alloy base of the rotor triangle pops out hinged at the point towards the door hinges. Your palm is already inside the rotor and you thus grasp the base edge. When you pull it the door unlatches and opens.

Need pictures really!

Madza can PayPal me the design commision. :D They owe me anyway for how many rotor accent packages I sold with my "Day in the mountains" pics! :p

As you are posting onto a global discussion site it is very difficult for us non-Japanese to join into your conversation AS WE DO NOT HAVE OUR CARS.

It would be more beneficial for the forum if you could discuss the driving experience of the 8 especially if you could compare it to other cars you may have driven (ie S2000, TT 225 perhaps).

Hope you understand, especially as we in the UK have just been told that we are now looking at October delivery and slowly going stir crazy.

Personally, I like the door handles. One of the most used parts of a car. It needs to be functional foremost, and it is. This type of door handle is popular because it is functional and practical. I think also it looks good.

This really isn't helpful. I think you're being very selfish in your opinions.

JSG has done that in multiple threads ranging from comparisons to his S2000, to the navigation system, to the AudioPilot noise compensation technology of the Bose Premium Sound System...JSG and East Moon have been the most vocal people from Japan flooding us with all the information they can share......all you really need to do is look

As I recall, JSG is 'non-Japanese'. In fact, I think he is from the same island that you are on at the moment. He just happens to be lucky enough to be working on the island where the RX-8 has already been delivered.

Although, I've only touched the car at a Mazda Reve-It-Up event ... I completely agree with you! When I had my old Probe, the door handles where one of the many unique designed features that I loved about the car ...

... Or maybe instead when you grab the inside "rotor triangle" you rotate it to open up or back the other way to lock the door ... ?

Nobody else is shaving their door handles? I'm not big on rice or show cars, but I think shaved door handles are sleek n' sexy. :D I probably won't do it right away, but I'd like to eventually.

Someone's bitter... JSG has been more than forthcoming with information about the car and I personally think his rotor-shaped door handle would be a very nice touch to the exterior. I'm sorry that your car won't be delivered until October but that's not JSG's fault, is it?

What would a shaved door handle look like?

You see them a lot on hot rods. The door handles are removed covered and you use a remote like you would for your alarm to pop the doors open. So in effect there are no door handles....

Dunno, aesthetically this car is fine for me, I'm very pleased with the shape and should also be with the performance.

Thus, I won't be making any mods to the car... because aesthetic changes are ones that you will get over about quickly and then not care about... thus you've invested all that money and it's just a 'hey neat' type of thing.

Door handles are one of those things... I think the only aesthetic mod I'd make is adding the polished rotary accents for the front and rear bumpers, so it makes my car more unique.

Otherwise.... nothing really. But hey, that's just me.

From what I understand, there is a manual release hidden somewhere outside on the car. Not the most secure system but hotrods aren't really daily drivers right?

I'm going to order custom RX-8 doorhandles made by Precision Auto Mech in Irvine, CA.

They cost $235 dollars each but they're worth it.

I was thinking ... that the last gen RX-7 had unique door handles on its rear pillar.

:D

To bad the RX-8 didn't follow in a more similar fashion (I don't know, but I'd guess that if the RX-8's door handles were in basicly the same place and style, that could weaken the body structure).

But IMHO, I'd love to see the RX-8 with "unparalleled" designed door handles, that help make the car more special ... And using the rotor motif would be nice, too!

Why is it a complete waste of money just because you wont spend the money or can't afford to doesn't mean some one else cant or wont. I actually think that shaved handles and/or moldings usually always improves the lines of the car including the 8.
