Do you forget to shift to 6th gear?
Happens to me all the time. Even though the car is turning five grand, it's so smooth that I don't notice I haven't upshifted until I glance at the tach.

For fuel economy I always shift to 6th as soon as possible. I very often find myself trying to shift up when I'm already in 6th, because the engine sound can be misleading. At low rev (under 4k) it sounds practically the same in any gear.

I almost always use 6th for fuel economy reasons.
I love the pull in the high revs, so I usually go 1-2-3-4 hitting 6500-8k in each. By the time I'm at 6k in 4th I'm going fast enough that I'm done accelerating, so I do 4 to 6, skipping 5th a lot.

A lot of times I've caught myself driving in 3rd for really extended times in traffic up to 70 KPH. The Punk/Oi! or Hardcore blaring through the stereo is all I can hear. I usually notice when I get a break in traffic, hit the gas, take of like a shotgun and say to myself, Damn I love this car, then I shift

Yeah, AutoBahn... I can relate... lately the sun has been shining, the windows and sunroof are open, and Radiohead or Muse are blaring out of the car stereo. And I totally forget about the sound of the engine.
I enjoy this car so much more in nice weather!!!

Yes, 3rd has always been my favorite, too! Just such a wide range of speeds you can go while in third and you get great passing power.
I forgot to shift into 6th a few times when I first got the car - partly because it's so quiet and partly because I'd never had a 6-speed before. I don't forget these days.
I also skip 5th a lot, both upshifting and downshifting.
