Was at Clear lake mazda and the lady sitting next to me told me this>
She brought her 8 to be serviced, had to leave it over the weekend.
A young man, son of a big wig there, decided to take the car out for the weekend.
Got it dirty, all cds we gone, etc.
Mazda dealer would not even wash the car nor say sorry.
They did not press charges cause the guy was young.and young dudes do stupid things. go figure.

What pointy ears?
I jack up the driver's side of the car up with the OEM scissor jack: 1) so I can get a drain pan underneath, 2) to drain slightly more of the oil out.

Yep, have done every oil change since I got the car at 47K or so. I usually use the emergency jack to jack up one side, slide a hydraulic jack under the front to jack it up the rest of the way, and then support the other side with a stand.

Stock suspension, no problem getting car up on rhino ramps. Instead of a block of wood, just put a hard-back book in front of each ramp. Easy, and they don't take up much space.

I have two steel ramps which I will be using to perform an oil change. Just got to find my chucks. Would one assume that if you jack up the opposite side of the oil drain plug and then remove the plug that gravity would take over and remove more oil? Maybe I will try one ramp and a low jack stand and see how much I get out

^............oh, you will get more out!
Whether it's ramps or jack/stands.............you drain it on a level surface and then raise the drivers side and watch what happens.
I actually drain, then lift drivers side, then drop that, raise the passenger side, then drop that, and back to the drivers one more time. I know this helps it get out of the oil coolers as well. Helps to have two floor jacks as well.
Hard to go from side to side on ramps, and if ramps aren't high enough you won't get as much out.

I've looked through a ton of threads and still haven't found what I am looking for...
What do you all recommend as far as brand and weight goes, and where do you buy it from?
And, how many quarts will I need?
Thnx

^ 5W30 Castrol GTX, four quarts. It takes 3.7 qts with filter replacement on Series I 'by the book' (more if you do all the jacking discussed above). Autozone. I buy the gallon jug.
btw: Autozone will take your used oil. I typically bring in my drain pan after a change and buy my oil for the next change at the same time.

Oil filter is a piece of cake, as long as your hands aren't oversized
Open the hood, stand at the side next to the driver's side front wheel. The filter is rearward of the upper intake manifold against the firewall.
I just use a jack and a stand. Crank up one side, remove the plug, let it drain till it stops, drop that side, crank up the other side, let it drain till it stops, drop that side, crank up the other side again, wait if anything else drains out, replace the plug, drop it, start filling. Change the filter somewhere in the waiting.

i just take mine to the dealership. then again, i have a massive stack of free oil change coupons and it is a dealership i trust. even if i ever run out of coupons, i think i would still take it back. it doesn't cost any more than the cheap places and like i said, it is a place that i trust them because i deal with the same people every time and they remember who i am.

$32 bucks at the dealership? Can't beat that. The dealership has treated me pretty well, so maybe I'll do it myself next time.
Also, I have searched for premixing suggestions and still haven't found many answers.
What oil and ratio do you all use?

Seriously.. FML..
^ I pay $40. It's an oil change, car inspection, rotate tires, fill up on all fluids. I guess it's a good deal so I never do it myself.. And no bad experiences..

What I also usually do to the old filter is I punch a hole in the top of it (once I'm sure the oil change is going to go okay - so I won't have to drive a car)...I've heard that this helps to drain the oil out...also don't forget the paper towels around the filter to soak up the oil that inevitably comes out.

I loosen the oil filter to break any vacuum, but punching a hole is not necessary imo - just chance for more mess. Rag around the filter base is a good idea, especially as series I are inverted.

The manager offered a discount on the next lube/filter. Not just no, but Hell No.
I have a PL-650. Simple. Use it on the RX-8, the truck, the boat, the lawnmower... but still drain the bikes. Too many personal experiences with incompetent lube goons to not do it myself.
