read "the little things" and "how did you first find your 8" threads. Show those to your friends.

your threads are awesome, btw

coming from rednecks who love nascar? Doesnt affect me much. Ooo it takes so much skill to drive car that only makes left turns for couple hundred times and always crash for stupid reasons.

Rotary sucks i know, thats why a 1.3 liter can get 232 hp? And can rev 9k all day without issue. Try that on their civic ... Oh wait it doesnt have 9k rpm, my bad.

Rotary engine sucks so much that just right after they won Le Mans in 1991 they ban the engine right away. It sucks because it did break down.

Rotary engine sucks so much thats why its rolex cup champion?

looking at the engine alone it looks great. but put it next to a performance piston engine in the same price range as the car is priced and the rotary doesn't look all the good.

9k on a piston engine is allot different than 9k on a rotary, ya it "looks" cool. cars like ferraris that have a high redline have power all though out the power band. the rotary has no power down low and only has power up top. piston engines don't need a 9k RPM because they get power sooner.

its a 1.3L that gets 232HP, and gets the same MPG has a 6L v8. and comes with no Torque. and the engine is not that mod friendly. and piston engines are cheaper to maintain, and don't require putting oil into it, and don't flood...

yes the highly tuned/modded rotarys in those races are great because they are small, light weight with good HP. but its just to hard to get a rotary like that for road use.

i like rotaries only because they are different, not "better".

Top Gear lap times of a BMW M3 and the RX8 are the same. (wet track is a myth look it up)
Yet my RX8 cost me 11k and a BMW M3 costs roughly 26k for same year and mileage. Both have a back seat and get the same mpg. Says a lot to me.

FWIW, the rotary engine is not about power. What you get with a rotary engine in an RX-8 is essentially a mid-engined car, and all the handling that comes with it. You also get an incredibly smoooooooooth, vibrationless engine which, with the handling, results in a unique and most attractive driving "feel" and responsiveness — not something that can (yet) be measured in numbers.

As far as reviews go, seems like 9 out of every 10 RX-8 reviewers were wild about the car. Just check Top Gear, Car and Driver, Automobile and many, many others.

Still, no point in sharing any of this with your friends who think the RX-8 sucks. No amount of logic, facts or evidence will change their minds. It's like trying to get someone to accept evolution. Not gonna happen.

There's allot of misinformation in the last 3 posts and that's all I am going to say.

this thread is beyond pointless and does nothing for the community.

To each its own, if you like it, just let it in one ear and out the other, if its getting under your skin, trade it in.

Sounds like you and your buddies need a track weekend. Just the guys...

Let the group know where you live, maybe a member can make a recommendation and help you out....

I love the corvette and 911 drivers that come over ask questions. Explaining they got spanked by a fairly stock car with a 1.3L engine is LOTS of fun (especially the vette drivers), and I am not really all that good a driver, yet...

The majority people that bashes the RX-8 are people that don't know how to appreciate the lightweight and handling of a car because they either do not realize how good these attributes are on the track or they suck at momentum driving.

Those that bashes the rotary engine about it drinking oil are plain morons. Just point them towards the Z forum and ask them to read the few hundred pages of oil consumption thread.

If your friends are driving FWD, explain to them how FAIL WHEEL DRIVES work.

If they still insist the RX-8 sucks, ask them this question: "Are you the one paying for my car?" then tell them to STFU and GTFO

No offense over here but you just dont know what you are talking about.
Torque is almost 100% dependent on engine size. I dont think my 1.6L 98 civic makes even 100 pounds of torque so in fact rotaries make a lot of torque for their displacemnt. Get a 5.0L v8 mustang with like 400 pounds of torque then do a 5.0L rotary (my dream) and see who has more torque... stop saying rotaries have no torque because that is just ignorance.

so nothing i said was right ? other than the lack of torque.

wont a 5.0L rotary be nuts on gas ? let alone a 1.3L gets v8 MPG. and if its that bad on gas than mazda wont sell it.

yes rotarys produce good numbers for what it is. but again madza finds it hard to make one for the road. that can be OK on gas and have decent power. so are they really that great of engines? you could never put a 1.3L rotary in a heaver car, it would be slow and bad MPG.

Ps. i dont really care as much about MPG, but a lot of people do

I do care because of gas prices keeps going up and up almost everyday. I drive less now because of this, and on what's going with the economy. I only have to drive if i really have to do it (i.e., going to work, dropping kids to school, grocery, etc.).

What I stated in my post was not misinformation. Please do some research before you say what I stated is wrong. Try looking at the top gear test track lap times for yourself. Then try KBB.com and compare the price and MPG of a M3 and RX8 of the same year and mileage.

M3 gets far better gas mileage they are around 24-26 hwy as high 28 at times 17 to 20 city.

My friend has an m3 when it was lightly modded he was seeing those real world Mpg's

Now he has a stage 2 blower on it getting close to 500 whp he gets 15 to 16 in the city and 20-22 on the hwy which is what my rx8 gets. The highest mpg my engine ever had was 24 that was coming down the western slope in Colorado.

Granted ever car is different but to say we get the same MPG's is ridiculous. We might keep up with them on the track, even that I'm skeptical on.

Check https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-media-news-11/car-driver-best-handling-car-under-%24100k-203782/

A throw a little cash at the 8, maybe enough to get the cost somewhere near 60% of the ones that beat it, and you have first place.
