Do all GT's have the moonroof?

I've looked through the options and specs but I can't seem to figure out if all GT trim 8's have the moonroof...

In the USA, they do. Everywhere else the moonroof is an option.

That's what I thought. That's too bad.

I'm thinking the head room may be a deal killer... I can fit for the daily drive but I don't think I can fit a helmet under there...

Buy a car in Canada and import it
You can get a GT with no moonroof that way.

Or get a sport that has no moonroof.

+1 There's no performance advantage to the GT and you can add higher quality leather after market for less money.

Someone local to me had his seat lowered enough to fit a helmet in. I have no idea how it was done...but I am looking into it. I can't believe there is no DIY for it.

I can't believe it either. This car has track toy written all over it. It should have come from the factory with more headroom, but I really can't believe there is no aftermarket fix...

The "aftermarket fix" is new racing seat. :P It was also rumored that you could by new seat mounts that were shorter. Haven't found those anywhere either.

absolutely true.

go to your local custom upholstery. it might run you $1000-1500. but thats money you saved from the original car purchase so in the end it doesnt cost you any extra.

have you actually sat in one and made sure the seat was all the way down? it adjusts vertically and often at the dealerships they are raised.

2009s are available without the moon roof in all trim levels (check specs in this thread https://www.rx8club.com/purchasing-financing-insurance-56/official-2009-rx8-info-info-sheet-order-form-spec-deck-colors-inside-140437/ ) if you watch the package choices. you'll probably have to order it since the dealerships cant seem to understand that someone might want a GT without one.

I have sat in two GT's and played with the seat in both of them. I also sat in a touring with cloth seats and the moonroof and it seemed to have a little more room. I imagine the cloth seats sit just a little lower.

So my temporary plan is to try and find a touring with no moonroof, or wait it out for an 09 sport or R3.

I'd love me a set of aftermarket seat brackets that drop the seat maybe 1-2 inches and give a couple more inches of moving back. I have the seat all the way back and it's fine for driving (even on long trips), but I can't lock my knees out to stretch. It would be nice on long highway stretches when I'm on cruise. I also don't have helmet clearance. I could probably cope with drag runs where you're only looking at a couple minutes at a time, but a track event might be annoying.

I'm fairly tall, but I also sit very tall in the seat.

In the States all the Touring models also have the moon roof--that's why some of us have been recommending either a '04-08 Sport/performance model or else a 2009.

yea i'm 6'0'' and own a GT with moon roof.

helmet clearance is an issue, but you can gangster lean your seat back a bit and compromise a good arm to wheel posture... and you can fix that by sliding your seat forward some, but your knees will be close to the dash and it's really weird to heal toe (as you have to like disjoint your hip).

1-2 inches would be perfect.

GT comes with leather, Touring does not.
