Distance between fogs and oil cooler
Today I went to go look at an rx-8 to purchase off of a private seller.
We noticed that the oil coolers sat relatively close to the front...
Can anyone help me out? What is the distance between the back of the fog lamp to the front of the oil cooler?
I ask because we are not able to tell if these oil coolers are after markets. The previous owner to the one I may purchase from has seem to have removed the front two vented splash guards, assuming he was trying to increase air flow to the oil coolers. Which 1.) if that were the case it means that this car has a hight possibility of being beaten on before (i.e. autox, drifting) 2.) means the oil coolers could be damaged on the back side due to the rock flying from the tires due to the splash guards being removed.
If someone could tell me the distance, that'd be great! Thank you!

I wouldn't be extremely worried about it. I would replace them to bring back the normal flow of air through and around the vehicle, and brake system. The reason I wouldn't worry about your oil coolers is because they get hot enough to evap all the moisture they come in contact with. These more keep mud and debris from being flinged into and clogging the coolers. If the coolers still have good air flow through them your ok. If they are slightly bent or damaged on the fin side of them you can take a comb and straighten them back out. If there is no oil leak you should be just fine. Remember they get flooded with water when it rains no matter what.

I understand, and thank you for the input
but I would still like to know what the distance is between the back of the fog lamp and front of the oil cooler. I guess because if they had to upgrade to an after market oil cooler, try and increase air flow to the oil coolers, that would mean they were doing something that required more cooling than what it was meant for (i.e. drifting) which could show it's dents in bruises (bushings, brakes, rust areas that I miss, bad bearings, bad transmission) after I purchase the vehicle... if that makes any sense lol

Not true, i have changed my fog light bulbs twice, once with crappy rx8 strakes bulbs and the second time with some hoen fog lights. The second time i actually took the fog bracket off and took care of a condensation problem i was having all without taking the bumper off.

I just took the wheel well plastic (w/e its called) off and jacked up whatever side i was working on and voila, bulbs were there. Was slightly more difficult taking the whole bracket off but still manageable.

So its okay for the fog and oil cooler to have like only have a centimeter of space between them?
And I have another quick question lol This rx-8 has two oil coolers. And from my understanding, after a couple searches, the US and Japan had two oil coolers but Australia had one. But at the same time the AT had one oil coolers.
This 8, is a 6spd, with a moon roof originally a Florida car (if that even matters). Should it have two oil coolers or one?
