Smile Defective Windshield

I have a 2005 RX-8, build date 8/04, that I bought new in June 2005 with under 5,000 miles of rural driving. The car languished on a dealer's lot through the winter of 04-05. About 6 weeks ago, after Spring finally arrived, I noticed the spontaneous development of a small crack at the left lower corner of the windshieild that soon migrated upwards on every warm day. That this didn't happen during two cold New Hampshire winters was suprising. After reading about this problem on our forum, I assumed it was a defective windshield. My dealer aggreed, took a few digital photos and sent them off the the Zone Rep who approved a replacement-no hassles.

its not defective. it's a windshield... unless for some possible reason the structure of the car places pressure on the windshield. but once you get a small crack you needa get it fixed asap or else it will continue to crack.

I had this happen on my Acura TL - first warm day I owned it, all of a sudden it cracked out starting at one edge under the weather stripping. When the dealer had it replaced, they found a tiny chip at the edge of the windshield under where the moldings cover it - they guessed that the factory dinged it as they installed it, then the expansion of it in the hot weather caused it to crack as it expanded.
