decided to sell the 8.

gas is just too damn expansive. decided to stay with mazda and get a mx5:)

ShinkaEvo 09-02-2011 12:28 AM

Too bad you are not close, otherwise I'll trade+cash the rim with you. :P

jasonrxeight 09-02-2011 12:37 AM

so you would rather pay DMV sales tax than spending that on gas?

K1NeT1C USMC 09-02-2011 01:03 AM

in the long run it would save me more money

Speed_8 09-02-2011 01:18 AM

I would understand your logic if you were going to the ford focus or mazda 3 for the gas savings, the difference between an rx8 and mx5 is about 4mpg combined , hardly worth it, especially the extra you will pay to obtain one ( depending on year ) and taxes you will pay... however its your choice goodluck

p.s you are lucky you're not in canada we pay 5.00bucks a gallon

RogueTadhg 09-02-2011 08:26 AM

We don't hear about other countries gas problems. Gotta admit, most people don't care about the global view of a problem - but are happy to be looking at what's around them in a 30 minute drive distance as "their" world.

I hear that Europe is worse for Gas prices though. But we also get the watered down shit.

On paper. In practice I get 30mpg city and highway with my Miata and around 21 with my RX-8 (which seems high compared to what alot of others get).

Plus the Miata takes regular instead of premium. That alone saves about $3 each time you fill up the tank. If you fill up once per week, the combination of fuel savings (at 4 mpg difference) and fuel price savings (.20 per gallon) would be about $40 per month with fuel at $4 per gallon.

sjschutz 09-02-2011 11:39 AM

Honestly if an extra $40 a month was going to break the bank then getting an RX-8 was probably not in your best interest.

However, it is your choice so I hope you enjoy your new car. Good luck.

I love the gas argument. Gee, let me buy a sports car and then complain because it cost an extra couple of bucks to fill it up each time. It's just retarded to expect better than 20MPG from something you typically drive "fast"

I am driving a rental right now, a brand new Ford Focus and it getting about 10MPG better than I am getting in my 8. Trust me, I would pay $20.00 more each fill-up to drive my 8 than to drive some lame piece of shit like this Ford Focus. It just depresses me every time I get in it and it's not like most of these economy cars get 40MPG on average.

Have fun with your Miata

Well said 9k. The 'extra' gas money is well worth it to me. But my rx8 is my good gas mileage car, compared to my truck that gets like 5 mpg (no joke)

:Eyecrazy:
It's a beast!

Speed_8 09-02-2011 12:12 PM

exactly .... order 2 pizzas less a month and then you can afford the gas... ur not comparing a semi truck with a car in gas difference.. plus you are just going to drive the mx5 harder to try to achieve similar driving thrill, in result burn more gas by making the engine work harder

RufusVonStorm 09-02-2011 12:27 PM

I'm convinced the ultimate mazda experience is an mx-5 with 20b, you're halfway there! :) Enjoy

Jedi54 09-02-2011 01:13 PM

We'll miss your avatar....errr.... car....

blackenedwings 09-02-2011 02:05 PM

Sports cars use gas... news at 11. If you treat the gas money as "hobby money" it isn't a big deal. If you really are concerned about the gas mileage then buy a cheap ass beater that gets 35-40 mpg like my POS Geo Prizm. I'm swapping my Evo to E85 shortly and my mileage is going to be crap, but I'll also have over 500 awhp so who cares?

Myardor 09-02-2011 09:35 PM

It's like saying you rather use Rosie and her four sisters to Jacxxff than a real woman. Saves you
a bit of monies. Me, I rather have the real woman. More expensive but a much better ride.

monchie 09-03-2011 03:34 PM

Have fun with your new ride. I know you will miss the gas guzzling 8...lol

RotaryP7 09-04-2011 11:34 AM

Ah damn!! No.. You should of sold me your RIMS!!!!!!! :(

rx 8speciale 09-04-2011 01:20 PM

meh mx5 instead of an 8, what? some owners been doing weird trades lately.. lol

Bigbacon 09-04-2011 01:44 PM

Actually, I am still looking to make the same trade.

Are-Ex-Eight 09-05-2011 08:47 PM

I love the gas debate. I fell victim to it. I drive 110 miles each day for work. I traded in the 8 for that reason and and I had to drop costs to pay for my divorce. So what did I get? The 32 mpg Hwy Terrain. I love it but it's no 8. And here's the funny part about mpg ratings. My RX-8 was getting 20+ on Hwy at an average speed of 83 mph where as the Terrain was getting 32 at 55 mph and about 24-25 at 80+ mph. The rotary doesn't seem to fall off the mpg curve at high speeds like most pistons do

In the end you can't justify a NEW car for gas. If you downgrade or get a used then yes.

In any case gl and glad you stuck with Mazda.

I can only imagine. That would really be something.

K1NeT1C USMC 09-11-2011 08:09 AM

so i decided the mazdaspeed 6 would be better =) zoom zoom everybody will post pics later

Wingznut 09-11-2011 08:45 AM

Congrats! Hope you love your new purchase.

But the 6 is such a completely different ride, I'm guessing there was more to the decision than just the cost of gas.

RX8sold4EVO 09-11-2011 04:18 PM

The Mx-5 is a very nice car and the MPG savings is substantial + it scored 2nd place in the latest Car and Driver issue for best handling car under 40k. Ive owned both 8 and Mx-5 and Id gladly own another Miata...totally bulletproof engine longterm, great handling, great looking, holds resale well...and you can get a retractable hardtop which helps with noise and is impervious to theft vs the soft top.
