Dealership won't perform TSB - Help!

When I bought my RX-8 I had a look at the service history and didn't see the MSP16 TSB listed on there. Outside of the upgraded starter I saw that everything else had been done. I didn't take a print-out of it (my mistake) because I just figured I'd drive into my local Mazda dealership and have them perform it. When I took it in there today they stated it had already been done. That was no biggie to me but when I asked to see that it had been done they said no. They also refused to print out a service history on the car. When I asked them if they could just simply try to do it, they said since it had already been done they would have to charge me an hours worth of labor to do it which was $100. I went as high as the manager of the service department and he still would not let me see the service history and told me they would not perform the TSB for free. If they would've offered to let me SEE the history and show that it had been done I wouldn't have a problem with this, but since they are being so sneaky about it I have my doubts. I called two other Mazda dealerships and got the run-around at both. Unfortunately in this area Mazda dealerships aren't very good.

Anyways, I was wondering to see if someone had the ability to run my VIN # and see if it was performed? I trust you guys so if you say it has then I'm okay with it, but if it hasn't I then feel like I have some ammo to go back to the dealership and get this done.

FYI - I'm not using the dealership I bought it from because it's almost an hour and a half away and the weather isn't exactly the best weather to be driving a Sport RX-8 in right now.

My VIN is JM1FE173240114458. Any help would be appreciated!

Just as I figured, that dealership was lying. Mazda states it has not been performed.

Thanks for the help guys!

btw: MSP16 is a "program" as opposed to a TSB "bulletin" and therefore must be performed if requested.

The way the bulletin reads, I think it's supposed to be performed even if not requested.

It was a battle but I got them to do it. I asked them to perform it again and they declined saying the car has to show the problem. I told them the problem is for loss of power and lately it's feeling a little down on power. They then tried to tell it me it was under the powertrain warranty and I'd have to pay. I told them it was under emissions. They disagreed and walked out to get the manager. While they did that I called Mazda NA. Luckily for me it took them forever so when the guy walked up I just handed him the phone before he even got a chance to spew me any bullshit. Talk about setting him straight. He thanked the person on the phone, handed it back, said "Do it" to the service guy and that was that.

Everyone locally says Tumminia Mazda is a terrible dealership but I figured for something this EASY I wouldn't get a hassle. I was wrong. Looks like in the future I'm driving a little longer to get my services performed. Maybe I'll just make the hour and a half drive to the dealership that's been servicing the car the past two to three years and save the hassle. lol

Good Job, what a PIA. It's not like they don't get paid to do it anyway.

Now the question is: did they really perform the MSP16 recall (because that's what it was, not just a simple TSB) or just told you they did? I wouldn't trust them after they already lied to you.

That's a great question and one I don't have an answer to. I will say that the car felt different once I started it and left the dealership. There was more mid-range power. That could be butt-dyno thought but to be honest I wasn't expecting anything in terms of a difference before and after. This isn't the first RX-8 I've owned and not the first time I've had this TSB performed either.

I'm going to try to find another dealership to take the car to. I need to buy a new wheel key anyways so while I'm doing that I may try to see if they'll check it as well. God I wish Rob Sight Mazda hadn't closed down as they were the best around by FAR.

I think they are supposed to put a label under the hood, which should let you know if it was performed or not. Or they could have just put the label on and returned the car, but I'd imagine they'd be getting into big trouble.. so why not just do it.

Might as well check for a label!

dont expect a label. it's rare a dealer will do that.
