Dealership Warranty questions

I am looking at 4 rx8s around my area right now.

3 of them are from dealerships that offer warranties.

One offers a 100K / 5yr warranty on the powertrain. The car already has 90k on it. So this is sounding like a great deal.

The other dealerships offer the same but for 2 years or 50K miles. Which I like but not as much as the other offer.

Have you guys had any experience with these used car dealership warranties?

Also if you buy a car from a person and not a dealership can you get a warranty on the rx8 if it is stock or close to stock?

Thanks!

I used to work at two different dealerships, as both a technician and a service writer. So, I have worked with both factory and aftermarket warranties a lot.

It completely depends on the company offering the warranty. Some are a complete breeze to work with, and others are an exercise in frustration. I recommend you find out exactly which warranty companies you are potentially dealing with, and search on the intarweb. And ask the service writers and technicians... They will tell you who they like working with. Don't ask the sales staff, though. (This includes the finance department of the dealership.) Car dealers (both used and new) make significant money on the aftermarket warranties. What they want to sell you is not always what's best for you.

And be sure to go over the warranty details extensively. Two different companies can offer "powertrain" coverage, and be very different in exactly what is covered and for how much.

If you are financing the car, your lender can often point you in a good direction. Remember, they have a vested interest in you keeping the car in good condition, whereas the seller only cares about making a profit.

And yes, you can always purchase an aftermarket warranty, no matter if you buy from a business or private party.

Definitely look into the "small" print.

Are these Mazda dealerships? Mazda sells this car care plan, which is pretty good. It covers pretty much anything with a pretty modest deductive ($115 or so I believe).

The program costs almost 2 grand and covers up to 100k miles, but I think is worth it. I will probably get it once my pre-owned certified program expires.

The dealerships are just medium sized mom and pop car places around here.

I am paying cash for the car but they told me that they are giving me the warranty at their cost and not making anything. Which 2 years or 30K miles for 1500 bucks is good. Not as good as the Mazda plan it sounds like though.

Can I buy the Mazda car care plan from a Mazda dealership if I did not purchase the car there?

Can anyone tell me who is a good warranty coverage company?

You gotta be careful with those mom & pop places.
If they end up closing business and you purchased a warranty through them, good luck with the replacement.

Yes...but MUST take the car to Mazda for an inspection. If they find "something" wrong with the car - which they will - then you have to fix it with them before you are eligible to purchase the care plan. Also, if your car is really messed up they might not even sell it to you at all. My local dealer wants to sell me the plan since my car has very low miles.

I would go with Mazda instead of those other places. Look it up online. Their plan really covers pretty much anything. It's like purchasing bumper-to-bumper warranty again.
