Dealership Possibly Pulling My Leg? Need Help!

WTF!!! Edit: WTF!! Got my car back, they said nothing was wrong with it yet when I idle the car bounces around between 750-1k RPM every second and sometimes there's this loud noise that sounds like a motor mount is broke or something. (It reminds me of when my TA had a broken transmission mount, it sounds like two metal pieces banging together). And when I turn my A/C off, everything comes to a complete STOP, and then everything is peeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrfectly fine. I don't get it, is that a problem that is easily over looked? Orrrrr is Mazda just giving us crappy Customer Service as usual.

Took my car in earlier today because the Check Engine light came on.

Problem #1: Hard idle after driving it around for a few minutes, and sometimes whenever I accelerate it'll feel like it's about to fall out of gear or something? Then all of a sudden it goes in and everything is fine, transition from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th is great. So it's got a rough idle, and it feels weird when accelerating in 1st sometimes.

Problem #2: Another thing it's doing is there's this little chirp noise in first gear, I noticed it when driving through my apartment complex trying to find a spot, was going around 10mph and noticed it had this distinct sound. And whenever I'm on the highway it's got another sound that reminds me of my old TA when I put an FIPK on it. It was just an odd sound that would happen when I hit the throttle, you could hear it start to suck in all that air, but on the highway going 60 it's constantly like that sometimes? I just thought it was a little odd.

Rant: Anyway, I took it into the dealership and told them about the rough idle and the chirping noise in first gear that I was having again. (Yes, not the first time I've had to take it in when I was having these problems) So anyway, I took it in told them about those two things and said the Engine light was on. So they had to keep it over night () and normally they don't. Then today I call and they say the couldn't find _ANYTHING_ wrong with it, and that I should just go pick it up. The error code they got from the CPU with the engine light being on or whatever, they said they didn't know what it meant, so they're calling headquarters right now to get more info on that code. They said after they find out more about that they'll give me a call back and I can come pick it up? So basically the problems I'm having are not normal, but they can't find anything wrong with my car? And the light that is comes on when there is a problem with the car, they have no idea what it means. What the hell is going on here? I'm pretty sure, and I told them, the rough idle is probably my motor mounts again, as far as the chirping goes I searched the forum and found a thread and he had the same problem and the dealership told him that's just a normal thing that happens with all 8's.

So does anyone have any idea what would be going on with my car?

I don't know what's going on with your car but the dealer I go to does the SAME EXACT THING whenever I bring my car in. They say " CEL!? that's normal, these come on sometimes, don't worry about it!" when obviously that's BS and I make their asses pay for it anyways. I just got a CEL a few days back and it went off by itself but now there a situation i'm having with my shifting. You said that you have a rough idle and problems into 1st. Well I have a rough idle too but 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are fine on my car...it's only shifting from 3rd to 4th that's delayed so the rpm gets to about 6500 rpm before finally getting into 4th!

I ran a code at a local auto parts store and it says I have a vacuum leak. I'm taking my car in tomo. morning to have them fix it. Maybe that's what you have and they're scared of telling you what it is because it may mean they have to replace something using *GASP!* they're own money.

Good Luck with your car and keep us updated with what happens!

Haha same here. I probably should have said that.

Yes. 2004. OMG 04. YES! AUTOMATIC TOO. It's like a double whammy isn't it?

Anyway, maybe that's what is wrong...sounds like you're having a similar problem but yours is a little worse than mine.

Tell me more about this scan you did at an auto part store, where can I go to do that and what do I need to do once I'm there? I think you're right though. Everytime I get it back it'll work fine for a day or two then go back to doing the same thing. It's like they just keep putting a band-aid over it rather than fixing the problem itself...

Have any pics of yours? the mods you listed in your siggy are some things that I've been wanting to do with mine, give me some info on that stuff if you don't mind =)

They're not using their own money if it's warrantied... Mazda pays for their time, though it's a set amount, the dealership still gets paid.

check all your vac.hoses and your gas cap(there was a t.s.b. on the caps)i found out on my own about the hose.it had a small split on the end near the plastic input of hose's on the intake tube(this causes bad idle problems on at/and 6speeds)hope that helps.be sure to look real close because the hose will not look like it's split but it is.

Its probably some generic OBDII code. those codes are not listed in shop manual. but *smart* dealerships should have someone who understands them (or at least look it up in OBDII code booklet, god*

So i guess ur dealership are loaded with dumbasses.

See what they say, but I think u should take your car to somewhere else.

I think it might have something to do with the Vac hoses you guys are talking about, when I searched the forum before about the chirp the dealership that guy talked to said it was something to do with them and was a normality with all 8's.

I'll call them back in a minute and ask them to take a look at that (Unless the code came back with the same problem and they're already fixing it).

As far as taking it somewhere else...I live in a fairly small town, 240k pop, rotarty engines aren't very popular here, there's only a handful of 8's in my town so taking it somewhere else probably wouldn't do much, but I do know of a place I use to go to back when I had my TA and they don't BS with you, so who knows. I'll have them take a look if the dealership keeps acting like this.

also, where can I take it to have an auto part store take a look at that code like the previous poster said? Advanced Auto Parts?

Haha I know, the oh so cursed 04' automatic... I went to Advanced Auto Parts and I asked them to run codes on my car. What they did was, they connected an OBD II scanner to my car and it pulled out whatever codes car is showing right now. Then they print out the codes and they give you the sheet. Even though I'm taking my car to the dealer tomorrow, I still went to advanced because I just wanted to know exactly what was going on.. (I got impatient haha) There's many places that run codes i'm sure, Autozone, Advanced Auto, and I think Wal-mart service does too if i'm not mistaken.

Plus, I have a weird feeling that my dealership is full of useless chimps in Mazda Service vests and Dickies Slacks. So I figured if I got my codes printed out, I'd go to the dealership and ask them to run the codes as well and if they tell me that there's nothing wrong and that it's "normal" with the rx-8. I'll call corporate Mazda and slap a nice, big lawsuit on their backs. It's one thing when the customer service is bad, but when automobile service lacks, that's unacceptable, considering how much they charge for some things.

I'm just about to swap out my BASE suspension for a Grand Touring suspension and also throw in some HIDS so i'll definately take some pics then and shoot you over as much info. as i'm educated enough to give!

Good luck and let me know what happens and i'll do the same!

Most def. I think I'll take my car up to autozone and have them run the codes if I get my car back tonight without the dealership having done something to it.

Just got off the phone with them. Apparently they found out more about that code and now they're going to need to keep it over night again. I guess that code meant they were actually going to have to work on the car now instead of just pawning it off on me.

Best part about this whole thing though, is that conviently my Warranty just expired. How great is that!

Love these guys! I almost want to say the last time I took it in a little over a week ago they just patched up whatever was wrong just enough to last awhile so they could wait for the warranty to expire and then stick me with all these charges...=(

I dunno...They didn't say what the problem was yet, just that it wouldn't be ready today so they have to keep it over night again...

FYI: Number of Smilies you can use is capped at 20. That's always good to know

Not sure if this matters but I was reading someone elses thread about power loss and what I was describing about what was going was happening to him, he said his car was balking in first gear from stop. That's what mine was doing. it would feel like the car is about to stall or something, then I'd give it some throttle and it'd be fine. It's just at idle/dead stop where it starts doing these shennanigans! I had a blinking CEL for awhile, then it just went solid.

When someone say

*we have to keep it overnight so we can fix it*

That simply means

*Man, I dont want to work on this thing rite now, its almost 5 and I gotta go home*

If I were you, Im not paying for ****, like you said, obviously what they did b4 was just some *quick patch up crap*, just to wait till your warranty expires.

If I were u I will talk to Mazda about this, cuz its the same problem happening over and over again.

Yeah that's definately Grade A bullshit. I'd be all over them right now. If they resist to help you out, then you can file Lemon Law or talk to Mazda of North America and report a claim through them. Honestly, I wouldn't end this until your car is completely fixed with no money out of your wallet. Stay on this.

I have a weird feeling that they're going to feed my the same crap tomorrow when I take my car in. They'll tell me that my car's warranty is only until 2008 and they'll spend at least an hour trying to convince me that it's 2008, now. They're complete retards at my dealer and if my problem doesn't get fixed, they're going to have more than an angry consumer on their hands.

Keep at it man.

Yours is until 2008? I thought the only extended our warranties for 3 years 6 months? Is this incorrect or is it 4 years now??

Powertrain extended for another 12,000 miles or 12 months. whichever comes first.

Thats for 04 and 05

I think my 8 has 48K miles and 48 months of warranty (bumper to bumper) + the extended

thats like 60K 60K for powertrain.

not 100% sure, too lazy to look it up.

So if mine is an 04 with 17k miles, it should be covered until 08 right?

If I remember the notice I received, it's 5-year/60,000 mile powertrain at least if not full warranty (I have an 05)... too lazy to look up as well...

05 as well...and it was a powertrain extention only. Next time out to the garage, I'll get it and see as it's in the glove with the manual and all other warranty info!

Yeah just got off the phone with them. I was like "Hey! My car is under warranty. It was extended to 4 years!"

And the guy was like "Let me take a look at your ticket" *puts on hold* *Tech starts kicking wall and screaming profanities* *Picks phone back up* "Oh yeah, 04 with 17k miles, you're still covered under the factory warranty, I don't know who told you that you weren't!"

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh HUH!

3 Days they've had it. And they still don't know whats wrong with it. Again I searched the forums to see if any other guys had the same problem, and krock and some other guy had the same thing I did. I told them to check the Spark plugs because they might have a carbon build up and then he said yeah it could also be the heat coils (something like that). They might have gotten soaked. And thats another thing I read about that someone had wrong with their car when they had the same problems I had.

Anyway the Dealershit told me that they're looking at my car right now (WTF HAVE THEY BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST 2 DAYS THEN!!) and that they'd for sure have an answer to give me today. Just what were they doing the last two days then?

Ughhhhhhhh. I hope the fix it this time around instead of putting another quick fix on it. If not I'm just going to get severely pissed and take krocks advice about the lemon law and speaking with Mazda Corp.

Good luck! Hang in there! Please take the time when all done to share your symptoms and the final fix all in one place so we can all learn and keep compiling the so-called database.
