Dealer ripping me off?

So I took my 04 WB in a couple days ago to see if there were any recalls or any sort. The lady told me that there are a couple computer flashes that need to be done. I said fine... Made me an appointment for today. Go to sign the paper work and she says its going to be $100.00.... I figured this would be under some sort of warranty or recall or something. My car is out of warranty now. (2004, 40k miles).

Am I right to think that I should NOT be charged?

If it's a recall then she shouldn't be charging you for it. I had the same thing done when I brought my car in after buying it (2004 50k miles) and the only thing I paid for was the oil change I requested.

If you never did the MSP16, they CANNOT charge you for it.

Its a Mazda recall. you can call MNAO to check and see if it has been done. sounds like you never did, so yeah it's free. Don't let dealer rip you off. cuz they will go claim Mazda for the warranty/recall money too.

Not true.

Only recall that need computer reflash will be free.

if you just "want it to be up to date", then you have to pay, most likely an hour of labor.

Well she said that there are a "couple". Should I fight it or just let it go? I hope the flashes are worth it.

couple my ***. Tell her that she can go suck it.

Any newer firmware flashes will "superseded" the older one.

Lets say the newest is Version D, and you're only Version A, you will ONLY need to flash it to Version D, and you need to do it only ONCE.

Flashes are mostly manufacture updates. Its usually there to fix bugs and sometimes "minor" performance update.

2004 has the most revisions. of course I mean its the first version that came out, I think the original firmware that came with 2004 was flash K, now its up to what, U or something.

No

Like I said, go call MNAO and see if MSP16 has been done on your 2004.

if not, just bring it in and tell them "I need the recall done on this car"

Pay nothing.

you got your car used didnt u ?

If it's used theres chances that the previous owner already got them done, I would call up mazda to verify before paying.

Call MNAO first.

You can ask your dealership for that information too, but it sounds like the dealership you're planning to go are a bunch of vampires so I suggest you to call MNAO first THEN go to another dealer to do the recall.

One more thing, if the recall is already done, hmm well, then there is nothing to worry about, there is another flash after the recall flash, but I dunno what does it do so ... dont need to get it if you already have the MSP16.

I think you can check what recalls have been performed on mazdausa.com.
