Dealer didn't save compression test results
Dealer didn't save compression test results
So for the first time since I've owned it, my car was flooded--by the detail shop guys. It was towed under warranty, Zoom-Zoomed, plugs replaced (deflooded), and supposedly compression tested...
When I asked for the compression check results, the service MANAGER told me that unless the test is sub-par, they don't keep the results on record.
WTF.
I'm ready to call BS, and request/demand another test b/c I'm very strongly coonsidering FI (on this car or a trade up for a 40th AE), and want to know my motor's "health" b/f the money is spent.
Is what the dealership told me accurate? I like the guys there, and since they're the only one for 70 miles, I don't want to rock the boat--especially if/once I go FI. Any suggestions?

any way you can talk with the guy who performed the compresion check? chances are he may remember.. cant hurt to ask. i'm new to the RX-8 so i'm learning as well. (i have owned 27 RX-7's in the past 10 years and have extensively rebuilt many) and i'm new to the warranty procedeure, but i do think the dealer assumes most peple are rotary ignorant or are rotary ignorant themselves and don't understand the meaning of the compression numbers on each rotor face.
Funny though, a dealer rep called me tonight to ask how me recent service had gone. I explained that as usual the service team were very professional and accomodating...BUT, also explained the missing test results and that I really would apprecaite that info for my records (again, my contention is that they didn't do the damn test).
Hopefully this will spur them to call me in for a(nother) test.
BTW, my car is a 2005 shinka with just under 34k
Well honestly they would be incredibly stupid if they dont do a compression test. They get a good amount of money for doing a engine warranty job so dont get too upset. Also if they call a techline rep they have to follow the steps they are told, if it runs fine and they did the zoom zoom then they wont be told to run a test at all. Unless you pay or have a valid(rough idle, lack of power, stalls, wont start) complaint about the engine they wont do the test.
Shoot me a PM of your VIN, I can run in through techline and see if they reported it, I doubt I will find it but I will try.
BTW I am off till Jan 5th from work so I cant get results till then, luckily mazda isnt ford and I am off paid for 2 weeks for xmas

This is a tough situation, but it sounds to me like it was brought in on Mazda's dime to fix a warranty issue, which they did successfully (whether they did the check or not). If you got the numbers, that would be a nice bonus. But I don't think you're entitled to them since you didn't request or pay for that service, and the reason you want them is largely unrelated to the flooding.
