MY 2004 is out of warrantee, and I now have a check engine light an a burning smell. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from here in Manhattan. I also asked for the latest PCM upgrade.

They did the PCM for free, but then called me to say they wanted $230 to diagnose the CEL code. (if it turns out not to be the engine, which is covered by Mazda)

When they hook up the computer to update, does it also tell of any CEL codes? I really think I am being set up for a scam.

Any thoughts I can use as ammunition for when I pick up the car?

They also can't even duplicate the burning smell, which was quite evident after a short drive. I also asked them to decarbon it since I have

low idle at times, but they wouldn't.

No dont pull ur code there. if u want go to any Autozone they'll read it for free.

or if u have no idea what to do , I pull the code for you for free since I carry the pocket scanner with my car. setup a time I pull it for u, takes 15 seconds. if u want more data, I can bring my laptop, Full scan.

my stealership does the same and the reason i go to autozone first (and pick another dealership when at all possible).
