Day 1 - Driving Impressions
Just got my 2005 RX-8 6sp yesterday (surprise Xmas gift from my wife) and I'm very, very impressed -
1.) I'm using the car as a daily commuter to work (150 mi/ round trip). Since yesterday, I've put 220 miles on it and still have over 1/4 tank left. Can't really complain about the mpg's on my first tank of gas based on what I've read on this forum.
2.) Drove home in heavy rain (gotta love NJ winters - rain, ice, snow, cold, mild - we've got it all!). Great ride, surprisingly "refined" - no problems in the rain.
3.) Got home and parked it in the garage. Went back 3 times to make sure "my baby" was nicely settled in for the night. Haven't felt this way about a car since.....well, since I bought my 1980 RX-7 almost 24 years ago (wow, that's scary to think about how many years have passed!!).
I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship !!!
I also want to comment on this forum. This has got to be the most informative (at least for RX owners) and considerate forum on the web. Even when there's disagreement, I see consideration for the differing opinions, instead of obscene flaming.
Happy Holidays everyone!!

Congrats, on your present and happy holiday's to you too!
Q's:
Do you have stock rubber? The bridgestones or dunlops? You may want to do some searching on this board with how these tires work in the rain and/or snow.

Congratulations. As for your mileage, consider yourself one of the fortunate ones (as I am). I suspect, from your comments, that your commute is mainly highway, probably freeway miles. Further, I suspect you're keeping your revs in check as you break in your baby. If that's the case, your mileage is understandable. If not, either consider yourself blessed or consider having your gas gauge examined.

I averaged 19 when the engine was new. I know have 2000 miles, but I haven't checked it yet. Good Luck with the car. You sound like me and my new 8. Last time I liked my car so much was my 86 IROC Z.
