Dammit my car is making noises

Just bought my car NEW 06, now it has 650+ miles and when I rev over 6.5K or so, i get a metallic krr krr krrr noise, similar to marbles in a blender thingy i think. There is no loss in power or anything just that it makes that noise

Got an appointment with the dealer on Saturday, so we'll see. Hope its not too serius meaning engine needing replacing etc.

swoope 08-01-2006 08:20 PM

so the point of this post is what?? cause and affect.

you are doing the right thing. with the dealer thing..

you might want to check 4-7 of the owners manual...

beers

zoom44 08-01-2006 08:22 PM

might want to read the SDAIS thread

Easy_E1 08-01-2006 08:27 PM

Do you use premium gas?

Thought I would ask.

Unhooked 08-01-2006 08:35 PM

yep premium 93 from day one, researching this problem as we speak

Nopstnz 08-01-2006 08:42 PM

Make sure when you are revving to that the engine temp is cold.

https://www.rx8club.com/search.php?searchid=1687996

wow yeah not much 98 results to read

zoom44 08-01-2006 08:56 PM

and if you narrow it by looking just for posts by there are 16 references

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...AIS#post425310

and thats without using the hyphenated version S-DAIS that can be found while reading the search results above

zoom44 08-01-2006 09:08 PM

so much easier if peopel just say where they ar elocated. there are like 1000 members from Georgia. get ahold of oldragger and his bunch . get together with them and let them hear your car. or mazmart paul. hes there abouts too.

Unhooked 08-01-2006 10:08 PM

I just want to know if the noise is normal and if it why did it just start happening? I am thinking it maybe the heating/cooling system.

Also dumb question what does WOT stand for?

swoope 08-01-2006 10:12 PM

were did you read this wot???

and did you read 4-7 in your owners manual yet? it is in the glove box.

beers

WOT = wide open throttle

As to whether it's normal or at least harmless, well, that's something that a few of us would want to know too. There are two threads on the subject, one in this forum and another in the Tech Garage.

WOT = Wide Open Throttle

Look up the guys near you, would be much more valuable usage of time. Hard to say what it is through electronic text.

It's a normal sound

LionZoo 08-01-2006 10:40 PM

It could very well be, but it doesn't seem like everyone gets it (including some guys that push their cars) and that is a bit concerning. Also the service writer at my (now) local dealer called it ping when I described it over the phone and this guy came highly recommended by a couple people in the Bay Area. Supposedly the new flash will address it, we'll see...

you could stop about right there :scared:

lack of an engine break-in could very well be the case. Lets hope not though, cause that means it won't be a cheap fix. Also as a bonus, it's not proven but some people say that engines which aren't broke in properly sustain worse gas mileage.

How long you been revving your NEW car over 6.5K? From what i've heard, running over even 4-6K until 1500-2000 miles isn't recommended...

That's debatable. Some people on this board (including a certain rotary deity) swear by the hard break-in method. The Mazda manual itself only recommends keeping it below 7,000 rpms for the first 600 miles.

PerformRX-8 08-01-2006 11:25 PM

650 miles? your car isn't even fully broken in yet.... just wait until its fully broken in and then see what happens..... I had some small noises too, but after 800 miles it all went away....

hence why i said it's not proven.

heck, my dealer told me that break-in's are a thing of the past, and that the 8 doesn't even have one :cwm27:

don't believe everything you hear. And yes, break-in IS debatable, but this was just a POSSIBILITY. I never stated it to be the law.

Let us know what the dealer tells you.

I think I have the exact sound you're getting. I think marbles in a blender is a totally different sound than what you're getting. You said "Krr Krr" like a high frequency metallic sound. Marbles in a blender would sound like "tata tata tata" very fast.

And yes, the sound in my car does come from somewhere on the dash. Sometimes it sounds like its coming from the rear-view mirror, other times it sounds like its coming from the vents just in front of the windsheild.

The thing is is that I can hear the sound regardless of RPM. If I go over a rough patch of road I'll hear it.

24000 here and it's still here.

Raptor2k 08-02-2006 12:57 AM

This is fucked up. This is like the 5th fucking thread in the past few months and nobody knows where the marbles are coming from.

I am thankful for Mazda for creating the rx8, but at least attend to the car's problems.

There are several threads my friend.

And to repeat myself, like the original poster, I get the marbles fully warmed up, at around 7300 RPMS, they go away at about 8000, I've always used 93 octane. The sound began at around 15000 miles. Dealership is clueless and says it's normal.

tiggerlee 08-02-2006 01:17 AM

hmmm, 12,000 miles and no marble sounds......as a matter of fact I don't experience about 98% of the problems I read about here.
