The curse continues... accident w/ pics
Yeah, my 8 is silver
I t-boned a minivan that failed to stop at a stop sign.
I was driving along a main road and a minivan suddenly accelerates through a stop sign. Of course i hit the brakes as hard as i can but alas nothing could stop me from hitting him now so... WHAM! I hit him and dragged the minivan across the street onto a curb. I'm fine but my passenger is not so lucky as he has abrasions on his head as he hit the A-pillar (funny the airbag did not deploy).
There are no leaks or anything like that but my bumper is pretty much gone, crumpled hood, both l&r fender is pretty much gone, both headlights are gone, i can see the oil coolers sticking out, and both rims have damage on it. Point of impact is front right. I found it rather odd that under hard braking the nose drags to the left a bit.
Does it look like it's going to be totaled? Now i'm going to be without my baby for a while i just know it

sorry to hear that but im glad you ok and your passenger gonna be. for what i see the car is pretty much done, i seen insurance claim totaled on less damage. aside from the fact that your insurance is gonna kill you now im sure you gonna get a new car

you should get the carbon fiber front bumper, fenders and the hood, you can get the whole body kit from carbon creations, for under $2000. first get the money from the insurance for your stock hood, fenders, and the bumper. its what i did wheni had my accident but it depends on what insurance company you have. sorry to hear about your car though.

Did they say who was at fault in the accident? If it's the mini-van your insurance might not kill you, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Sorry to see that the Curse struck you.

Very sorry to see another 8 get violated, and by all things a minivan. I hate minivans, and most of their drivers, one almost go me yesterday.
But back on subject, I am just wondering why everyone jumps to say the car is totalled. On the parts list for his car I see a new hood, two fenders, a front bumper, a couple oil coolers, two wheels, and a bunch of odds and ends. Far from totalled IMO. I have seen worse get repaired.
I hope it all works out for you, and glad you and your passenger were not seriously injured.

Yeah my insurance is not going to be involved in this unless the other guy's insurance (Geico) is not taking any liability. The other car is a rental car and depending on the purpose of the rent is, geico is trying to determine if they are taking responsibility. If geico is not taking responsibility, does it mean i have to file non-insured-motorist coverage from my provider??
From the police at the scene he told me the other driver is at fault for not stopping and yielding to main road traffic. And you can probably tell the road is sloping down... it's right on a decline of a hill turn - a disaster waiting to happen.
If the car is not totaled, i'll live with a car with accident record. If the car is totaled, they'll pay me "fair market value" which would probably make me lose whatever payment i made on the car so far (1 yr worth). Oh yeah and the money for those weekly wash and wax
Either way it's going to suck...
My next car is not going to be silver car for sure . This is not my first accident... my last lexus (silver-ish color, not really silver ) was hit by some yahoo who did not pay attention to where he's going.

Again, I'm glad to hear no one was seriously hurt. Here is a tip - if your friend has anything that looks like permanent scaring on the face/head be sure to mention it to the insurance company. Most insurance companies will cut a compensation check for such a thing. I'm not recommending you exaggerate or scam, just bringing up something you may not know.
You mentioned the airbag did not deploy. My front airbags deployed fine in my deer-strike. Any idea how fast you were going when you struck the van? Did you swerve to try to avoid the van and hit him somewhat crooked? The airbag system checks angle and velocity to be sure the airbag does not do more harm than good.

Let us know how insurance is treating this but I don't see a totalled car in that photo. My wife's Protege 5 (We call it Crash) has been the recipient of an $8,000 repair and a $3,000.
It looked MUCH worse in the first case and almost as bad in the second.

there is a little bit of a different mentality with a performance sports car versus the protege 5 which in my mind is a sporty compact they call an compact economy sedan (my gf has the Mazda3 and if I said economy about her car I'd get one in the nutz)
also see how that wheel buckled down...the damage behind that urethane bumper is extensive but the urethane is so resiliant it just popped back out after the crash
I'm sure with that kind of front under boddy damage the engine got wacked pretty hard and
the frame bent, so that's the end of that

It won't be a total. I've owned cars damaged far worse than that that were rebuilt by insurance. Don'tknow if you've seen an estimate, but my bet is about $11000. Not a total.
