Curb Weights of various Models?

Now that the RX8 is available, does anyone know what the curb weight of the various packages (i.e. base, sport, touring, grand touring) are?

Well, you could try looking at Mazda's website, that's the kind of information car manufacturers provide.

Thanks, for the help, but they only list "weight with popular options", whatever that means.

The only thing that's listed on the mazda website is curb weight minimum w/popular options: 3029 pounds for the 6MT and 3053 pounds for the 4AT. No explanation of what "popular options" means. The other curious thing is that the 4AT is a mere 24 pounds heavier than the 6MT. I always thought that automatic transmissions tended to be quite a bit heavier? Anyway, I'm also rather curious as to the curb weights of SP, TR, and GT.

I don't know the official numbers either and have been trying to find them. However, normally the options in the Touring package would add around 35lbs, mostly from the sunroof. The GT pacakge should be about the same since it only adds leather and heated seats, maybe 1lbs more for the heaters.

The Nav system will be from about 15-20lbs.

Not sure what the 6-disc CD changer weighs.

A fully loaded GT 6MT with Nav should be around 3055-3065

Note: Curb weight includes a full tank of gas by defenition. 1 gallon of gasoline weighs ~6.2lbs.

I would expect the "popular options" means the sport package and CD changer, just a guess.

C&D had the RX-8 6spd with the sports package (no leather, sunroof, bose) only DSC and fogs at a curb weight of 2940. So to me thats kinda the base weight

Looked up on Road and Track and a GT 6MT with 6-disc changer is listed at 3000lbs. measured curb weight.

However, no definition on what R&T considers curb weight.

But for R&T and C&D are about 75lbs. less than "official"

Curb weights are actually listed in the owners manual! I don't have it handy, but the most interesting part was that Canadian models are about 30 lbs heavier than their American equivalents! I'd guess that we must have stronger (and thus heavier) rear bumper reinforcements, since the Canadian rear bumper impact standard is still 5 mph rather than 2.5mph as in the US.

Gordon
