cruising RPM
cruising RPM
Hi, i just bought my rx8 yesterday and i was wondering what rpm to cruise at.. in my friends s2k your supposed to cruise NO lower then 3k... in my old 911 it was no lower then 2k, this prevented carbon buildup... what is the mark on the rx8? 3k?
I tend to keep it close to 3k when cruising. As you get closer to 2k, the car starts to get really sluggish. Just keep it somewhere under 3600-3700 and you'll be as efficient as possible. Don't forget to redline though! :P
? u ask ask if there was a switch or lever to control this...
once u get into 6th gear at cruising speeds, your MPH determines your rpm. it's not like u have a choice what RPM u want to cruise at. LOL well, the only choice is to slow down.
ex: 85+ MPH means you'll be cruising @ around 4k rpms for the 6-MT.

I generally stay between 2-4k when I'm driving like a normal person. A lot of the time i find people in front of me don't speed up fast enough to warrant a downshift for power when I've slowed to 2000RPM.
When I'm having fun, I cruise in the 5-7K RPM range.

Turns on "gushing mode"
See?!?!? That's whats so cool about this car! You can baby around at 2-3k rpms and settle into a 60 mph groove, never getting above 3.5k
.. or ...
You can make this baby howl! Don't even need to shift from 2nd gear unless you're going 80 mph! Spend all day in 3rd gear : Rooowwwrrr !! :
It's good either way. No less than one redline a day, though.

I cruise 80-90 mph, so that puts it up pretty high. Steady low rpms has not been mentioned as a good way to burn out carbon, in fact, people with automatics who do that sort of thing frequently end up needing new engines more than other groups who bang on it.
That is simple.
Run at whatever you want to.
To prevent carbon build up, just redline it regularly.

that sucks...
