Red face Cooling fan/clutch/heat problems

I have searched through threads and believe I have nothing to worry about however I have just joined this rx8club and I would like someone to verify everything.

I just bought an rx8 and my whole center console and seats get very hot when driving. This is normal for this car, right?

Also, when I turn my car off my cooling fan comes on - should this be coming on as it drains the battery? I have already had to replace a battery because the fan drained it. At the moment, I stay in my car to see if the fan comes on, if it does, I re-ingage the ignition and switch off to stop the fan.

My clutch I believe is totally normal. When I am sitting idle with feet off all pedals, there is a rumbling/vibration/rattle type noise that sounds like its coming from directly under the drivers area beneath the car. When I press the clutch, it goes away. It is louder with the AC on. This is normal, right?

I also get a 'hissing' noise coming from the passenger area when the AC is on. Is this the freeon or air going through the compressor under the dash? Or is that abnormal?

I would appreciate if someone could reply to my concerns and let me know of any abnormal operations and normal operations for my peace of mind. Like always, I always provide my help to people when I can.

This is normal for the car. Early versions got much warmer than current models.

DO NOT DO THIS! The fan is designed to come on when you shut the car off and either coolant or oil temps are too high. This fan running for no more than 10 minutes should not kill your battery, if it does you should invest in a new battery. By shutting the fans off you are running the risk of damaging your car.

By chance is your interior climate controls set to have the defroster on? When it is engaged I believe that the AC compressor is run lightly to help in the defrosting process to generate the noise.

Never had my car hiss at me. I would be scared if it did. Sounds like a slow leak.

Enjoy the ride

lol no there is not a lot of snakes in my area, not at all! the hissing noise is not constant - it comes and goes, and is only there when the AC is ON! The dealership said it was normal - but I have never had this before, and Im just concered as I take pride in my cars. I dont want to ruin it - and thanks for the hint on the cooling fan! I will NEVER shut it off again! thanks!

FL is a very hot place not the most ideal location for the rx-8. The fan turns on when the temperature is high. I have only experienced this once during a slow traffic drive back home in soaring temperatures. Let the car do it's thing to cool off. Better yet, you should open up the hood too.

zoned - in response to your question. My year is a 2005 RXG8, black. When I bought it I got it serviced the next day and had two plugs done under recall. I also paid for two sparks plugs to be replaced too. This is the only work done to it as far as im concerned. Keep me posted, im thankful for all you guys help - I LOVE the car!

Delhi - in response, my fan turns on obviously during driving however my problem is that my engine fan turns on with the ignition turned OFF and therefore it is obviously running from the battery. I left it on once before and it drained my battery and I had to buy a new battery for the car - this was the day after I bought it. That is my only concern...

It's going to do that in the summer. keep in mind that a rotary engine runs hotter than a piston engine anyway. you may have just had a bad battery. it shouldnt drain it down to the point of killing it.
for your reference, there is a link around here to all the recalls and service bulletins for your rx8. i think it's on Arlington Mazdas website.

the noise/ vibration you are getting with the clutch out sounds normal, you are right over the transmission so you can hear and feel the throwout bearing. if it's unusually loud i'd have them check the ruber boots on the shifter, mine had a hole in it and they rep[laced it under warranty. quieted down a whole lot after that.
