Hi f1Michel.I'm a fellow Montreal 8 owner. Here is my theory of the cycling RPM from a cold start.Maybe the engineers cycle fuel air mixture between lean and normal when the engine is cold to reduce the possibilty of flooding since that is when it is most prone to do so.I say this because the increase in RPM could be caused if the mixture is leaned. There is no way for the engineers to know if your going to just move your car or go for a long drive.I guess this could be a work around fix.AGAIN this is only a theory and I would love to get facts from Mazda just to satisfy my curiosity.

Hi Murray, it's interesting ,could be it or just a glitch. Either way it doesn't bother me. Are you driving your car this winter?

No.I have it stored. But I think next year I will do the same as you and take it out when the roads are dry. It's just too hard to keep it locked up

Sorry, this is my last post in this thread I swear.

Contradiction in the maual:

Section 4.9 Winter Driving Tips; bullet point 7-

Don't use the parking brake in freezing weather as the parking brake may freeze. Instead, shift to P with an automatic transmission and to 1 or R with a manual transmission. Block the rear wheels.

OK, that is perfectly clear.

Section 5.2 Warning - Not setting the parking Brake -

Leaving the driver's seat without setting the parking brake is dangerous. Unexpected vehicle movement could occur if the parking brake is not set. This could cause an accident. Before leaving the driver's seat, always set the parking brake and make sure the shift lever is in P with an automatic transmission or in 1 or R with a manual transmission.

Always seems to make no exception for winter and the chances for an accident are just as great in winter with the car rolling away as in summer. In a public place, I am not willing to accept that liability.

If anyone wants to dispute this PM me.
