Clutch bearing making noise

My clutch bearing is making some noise. How much longer will I need to replace it?

haze310 05-19-2011 12:27 AM

Depends on how bad the noise is. Replace it as soon as possible though. U wouldn't want it to snap on u

haze310 05-19-2011 12:28 AM

Its covered by warrenty if ur under 100000 miles btw

Grace_Excel 05-19-2011 12:41 AM

Just as 'haze310' suggested, replace it. I drive my RX-8 everyday and when the mouse-wheel-noise appreared it took about three weeks until it finally broke and had to mash my shifter into gear to drive the car at least 100 miles home.

I called two different Mazda dealership and the both told me that the bearing is not cover under warranty, just the core motor.

RX8Soldier 05-19-2011 11:16 AM

those dealers need to be executed...
clutch pedal warranty

deadphoenix52 05-19-2011 11:18 AM

oh my god. clutch and anything related to it is considered a wear item. not covered. obviously except the pedal. not covered under any warranty.

and my pilot bearing has been chirpping happily for over a year now.

Negative.
See above post :)

deadphoenix52 05-19-2011 11:32 AM

i said except the pedal. and that warranty is solely for the pedal assembly. he says "bearing" assuming he's talking about the pilot bearing, which chirps on these cars. after a while. not a pedal noise

seagram14 05-19-2011 11:44 AM

I’m talking about the clutch bearing not the pedal. I had the pedal checked last December, when I got the recall letter.

NgoRX8 05-19-2011 11:47 AM

Dealer will not cover a clutch under warranty. The clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, etc is a wear item. Do enough high rpm launches and you will wear out the clutch. What you consider to be under warranty is the 'clutch pedal assembly,' which is something that should last forever.

Charles R. Hill 05-19-2011 12:15 PM

How are you assured it is the "clutch bearing"?

haze310 05-19-2011 01:00 PM

When u press down the clutch does it Squeak

When I push down on the clutch pedal and hold it down it makes a squeaking noise. When I released the clutch pedal the noise goes away.

I had these exact symptoms..but for my case it was the pedal. I replaced it and no more problems.

Grace_Excel 05-19-2011 03:49 PM

Yep, if the bearing in question is making noise, it will make a noise in cyclical motion on idle (you'll definitely hear it outside of your car) and disappear if the pedal is depressed.

FERA 05-19-2011 08:47 PM

i can hear my throwout bearing rattling, sorry to jack your thread but does this mean ill have to replace the clutch soon?

DocBeech 05-19-2011 08:53 PM

not the clutch, I would just replace all 3 bearings and leave it at that. Pilot, Throwout, and transmission shaft input bearing. If the clutch isn't badly worn and has good life left leave it alone.

Pilot bearing - 12 bucks
Input shaft bearing - 30 bucks
Throwout Bearing (Release Bearing) - 60-70 dollars.

New Clutch with only Throwout Bearing - 400-500 dollars easy.

So if its just the bearing I would rather spend the 115 dollars instead of spending the 500 dollars or more. Of course labor wont be cheap, and if its not a dealer used to doing the ppf alignment it can turn out badly either way.

Isn't that normal with our cars?

For as long as I can remember, mine's made a noise (spinning gears kinda sound) with the foot off the clutch, and it disappears (just hear the engine) when the pedal is pushed in.

Are you talking about it happening sometimes??? Or all the time?

Always.

Foot off the clutch pedal, hear noise. Very obvious, not faint, but not OMG! either. A whirring, gears kinda thing.

While pedal is held down, no noise. Just hear the engine purr.

You're telling me in a normal 8 there's no change in sound whether the clutch is in or out?

DocBeech 05-19-2011 10:00 PM

mines the opposite, its my transmission input shaft bearing that is being noisy.

seagram14 05-19-2011 11:28 PM

There are so many clutch kits out there. What is the best and longest lasting Clutch kit for the lowest cost? And have anyone out there ever bought one from e-bay before?

FERA 05-19-2011 11:37 PM

If i just replaced the bearing wouldnt i have to take the whole tranny apart? Which is going to be a shitload of $ in labour
