City vs Highway (yes another MPG soap)
Ok here it goes.
I thought my commute was all highway - 12 miles one way no traffic about 10 of those were on freeway. Same back home no traffic. Well the first 5 or six tanks on my new 8 were between 14 and 16 MPG.
Then this weekend I went to LA which is about 40 miles plus 40 back some stop and go traffic and some harder driving - guesS what - 18.9 mpg (so that is only 80 miles on my tank and most of it is still comute)
So it is possible to get the 20+ mpg - just have to drive longer distances and don't count on that 15-20 miles commute to be conisdered as highway driving for you MPG analysis
If it helps someone fine, if not let the fire start

First MPG thread since the upgrade!
Steady highway mileage is better than short trips... go figure
Seriously, when I take a few short runs between my company's buildings per week my mileage drops into the 15 MPG range overall vs. 21 MPG steady highway and 17mpg with ~50% highway on an 18 mile commute each way.

Mine holds even in city driving, neither using nor generating gasoline.
But on the highway, I need to stop every now and then and pump the extra gas out.

Hey thanks for sharing,
One just has to wonder - if this thread is useless to you why bother prolonging its life with meaningless replies?
To those who answered in an informative way and helped this new rotary owner- thanks.
To those who are disturbed by it - sorry - but I thought the forum is the place to share info with folks...my mistake...this is internet after all
BTW rotten42 - where did you get the idea for your screen name?

Mixed diving with about 75% city and 25% highway, I get between 11 and 12.5 MPG!!!!! Pure hgihway, I get 22 mpg. On my last tank of 93 octane, 169 miles on 14.85 gallons!!! I reset my trip each time and fill to full each time so I know my calculations are pretty accurate. I'm trying regular for the first time and 14.85 gallons already cost me over $53!!!
