So far i average around 15.5 mpg in the city. I was wondering if this is pretty average. And for all thoes with MT what RPM do you shift at when you are casualy driving?

take short trips, city driving, hills and winter...then you will love the mileage that produces.

15.5 is pretty good - I get 14 usually. I shift at about 5-6k rpm for casual driving which is still rather high if your trying to get good mpg but I can't help myself.

WOW!!!

I shift around 4k and stay under 60mph, and I average in the 20s according to my ScanGuage II. I work about 12 miles from my house, and traffic is light, so I can usually roll 55mph or so all the way in.

I've averaged 32mpg on the highway going to Sedona too.

the way to calculate your gas mileage is to fill up, reset the day trip odometer to 00.00, then drive around, when you fill up you take your miles driven and divide that by the gallons used to refill the tank.

and 32mpg is not impossible on the highway, its just impossible for a sustained period of time. rolling down a hill at 70mph, all you need is the lightest tough of the gas pedal and you can do 45mpg down the hill. the problem is that you'll see 12mpg up the next one.

i have the cobb acessport and i highly suggest getting on. before i installed it i would average 17mpg on mixed driving, now i average 21-22mpg on mixed driving. on highway only i see 25-26mpg. and in the city only i see ~17mpg.

I can certainly understand that there is another mileage thread. It is absolutely amazing how RX-8 fuel economy varies. I'm just wondering how there can be such divergent mileage numbers for this car...... some people get horrible mileage while others get decent numbers.

In contrast, I recently gave up the RX-8 for a 350z. My other car is a Maxima. I've not reset the computer on the Max since it was new...... about 1 1/2 yrs ago. It reads 19.3 mpg. Freaky, but on the 350z after about 2 months of driving...... 19.3 mpg!! Different car, different weight, city, highway, passengers, no passengers, I drive, my wife drives, whatever..... I would have expected some variance, but this is wierd.

Doesn't matter how I drive my car
I have tried driving nice
I have tried driving like a maniac
I have shifted low
I have shifted high
I swear this car gets the same consumption at idle as it does at 7000

City - about 17.5mpg
highway - about 21mpg

I commonly get 10MPG in NYC traffic on trips that average 1 to 5 miles.

Recently took a trip upstate and got 20mpg doing 75 the most of time in 6th with some high rpm fun every now and then.
