checked my oil for the first time...

Hey guys, I' just checked my oil for the first time and the car has 1500 miles on it. Anyway, I was a little surprised at what I saw. When I took the dipstick out the oil on the dip stick looked like it was covered with oil that that was frothy and frappuccino looking. Never seen oil look like that before. Is this normal? Is this what rotary engines do to oil? It looked like it had the **** kicked out of it..... I'll try and post a picture...

This is normal. It's not so much Rotary specific as it is Renesis specific.

It has been well documented on this site (and every other site with an RX-8 section, for that matter).

Just wipe the froth off and check the oil again.

And for the record, you may want to check the oil more often than once every 1500 miles. Rotaries burn oil by design and some use a great deal of oil. Oil usage will also vary depending on driving conditions. A good rule of thumb is to check the oil every other fill up (gas).

Good luck and have fun

I had mine done in the dealer, basically they put the insert in and give you a thinner dipstick, I was happy with the results, but now everytime i remove my dipstick the insert comes out with it, I have no idea if my oil reading is off because of that and I also have no idea if the insert might go too far in and throw plastic in my engine or something... I will talk to the dealer and ask. BUT no frothyness.!
