Check Engline Light is ON!
Yeah negative is better. as mentioned earlier, start up, turn all the way left, all the way right, drive away.
This code is not exclusive to the gas cap, but even a deaelr would start there. If you get a new cap, and are sure you tighten it correctly every time, bring it in to a dealer who can drop the gas tank as there is a sensor in there as well.

yeah sounds exactly like every other person that says it disconnect the battery then it will reset eh CEL if it comes on go back to Mazda and have them replace it (believe it was a recall or TSB) if it's not go to Autozone, Advance whatever and get a gas cap replace and there u go should b good to go.....
OMG! i was gonna start a thread RIGHT NOW on this....my light came on too for the EXACT same thing...i didnt think much of it...car seems fine and my cousin came over with a scanner and took the CEL off...
Excellent thread- thanks to everyone for all the info. I had a CEL that kept popping up despite several battery disconnect/reconnect episodes. The dealer read it as a P0456 code but was pretty useles at giving advice. I changed the gas cap as suggested in this thread, re-set the ECU by disconnecting the battery. The CEL is gonne. I'm happy.
