The 8 has had some pretty negative press lately. You should really consider buying a brand new one. If you can find a lot with some new 05 8s - you can probably low ball the sh8t out of the dealer. It all depends on what options you *must* have. Don't know what the figures are in your area. It would not be unreasonable to try and get a base model 2005 with 0 miles on it for 19k. Well, it might be a little unreasonable, but ask the salesman about the "issues" you've read about and you should have no trouble pulling it off.

Good idea but wuts the esrp on a 05 Rx 8 i wanted one to be @ 20k or under if that would be good. And what are the major differences between the 05 and 04 are they same with a few changes?

2. Patience. lots of it.
3. Know your credit history & CREDIT SCORE. Free Reports (though you do have to pay $6 or so for the score. Don't tell the salesman you know it, and let him/her tell you what the finance dept came up with. If it's not w/in 20-30 points of what you got - they will probably try to screw you throughout your ownership experience. Go somewhere else.
4. Find some on-line site edmunds.com, maybe.
5. SEARCH!! Purchasing experiences, prices, insurance, issues w/the8, differences between model year (very little), etc., etc. have been discussed in dead horse beatin' depth on this forum.

How many miles were on the "others 04" becuase changing the engine in 2 years isnt that kinda bad? I know the rx7 you can/had to change engine round every 90k miles or so depending on your driving but in 2 years, thats wierd. And should i go to the Mazda dealer or go to like carmax, autotrade, ebay, or etc comapnies to buy the 8.

not sure on that , i know they was low miles. i even seen a 04 posted with less then 20k miles. right now im at 32k . but as far as reasons for engine replace, i do not remember the details. hopefully some one who has replaced theirs can tell you.
and dmc tips will help alot. like he said, you can lowball them on 8's.

First for the credit my parents will cosign it for me since i have no credit. One reason im getting a car is to have good credit. And even though patience is good i hate waiting. I was going to buy Rx 7 but i cannot hassle with all the problems, i just wana a DD and have fun at the same time, and in future ill get into modding it etc. I am starting to look online for facts and stuff and the i mainly use this website for facts. I will search more into the 8 and keep it comin with all the help.

I'll snap his neck.
I had good luck getting my 05 from Naperville Motors. If you look at the latest reliability ratings from consumer reports, I'd definitely recommend an 05 over an 04. The 05 is considered to be much more reliable based on their surveys.

Yeah i seem to be in the same situation as this guy but more on the fact of what price to shoot for on a new 05 8. It has pretty much everything on it and the MSRP is 35K. The thing is the car has 600+ miles of test driving on it. I curious about your opinion guys, what would be a smart price to shoot for? I was thinking 24 or 25k but maybe that is too low?

It will vary some based on location, and so.cal seems to be the highest from what I've seen here. I would still think that 24k is reasonable, and you could get it for less. Go in, tell the salesman which one you are interested in. Tell him you'll pay 22k. When he says he can't do that - walk. Then say "sorry, I can't afford that much" to every counteroffer until you get what you want (note: be prepared to say no at least 4 times). It really is that simple; but it's incredibly irritating & frustrating. If you let your desire to get into the 8 get in the way, you'll pay more than you have to. What's the worst that can happen if you lowball the hell out of them? I'll answer that - you don't get the car. You can always go back a few weeks after refusing to buy at their price, and if the cars is still there say - "you ready to sell it at my price, yet?" And ALWAYS HAVE MORE THAN 1 DEALERSHIP GIVING YOU PRICES. Pit them against each other like red-headed stepchildren. Did I mention you have to be patient?

All good facts. But the problem is that i dont think i can afford 22k so i gues ill have to do with a used 04 or if im luvky a used 05. And ill check out naperville mazda dealership from where u bought it. I want the mileage to be under 20k if possible because i still want it to be farely new. And im not going to mod it or anything in the near future i just want it as a daily driver since i cant afford the 7. Im gona search as much as i can and try to bargain but after a while i will just get it because i want the car really bad. Thnx for all input keep replying.

Why not wait a few months during winter when these cars typically sell slowly? You can probably get a nice discount. Oh, don't forget to get snow tires a.s.a.p. if you go this route.

New RX-8s are fitted with summer tires from the factory, so unless the 04 you are looking to buy has already been fitted with snow tires from the dealership, I highly recommend you get snow tires for it during the winter. Unless you don't mind sliding all over the road.

hell, go to any dealer. they can't give these cars away......
Seriously, #1 rule in buying a car. Never negotiate on the lot! You're on their turf then. The only time you should step foot on the lot is to sign the papers.
Here is my plan for buying a car. First do your research. Check edmonds and the other sites and know beforehand what the invoice price is on the car you want (you should be able to get it at invoice or less)
Call ahead to a few dealerships in your area and simply ask the Sales Manager's name and fax number.
When you're ready (on a Monday or Tuesday morning when there is no traffic on the dealers lot) send out polite faxes to the dealerships you have targeted. Tell them you are definitely going to purchase, that you have done your research, etc. Be polite and short/concise. Mention that you are contacted other local dealerships Don't offer a price you'll pay. Rather ask them to quote you a price for the car you want (takes away thier high ground).
Give all the methods they can contact you. Thank them sincerely and tell them you hope to hear from them soon.
They'll call you in about 10 minutes with an offer. Up to you to accept it or not..If they call and try to get into a negotiation war, kindly tell them that wouldn't be fair to the other dealers you have contacted and insist they offer you a price, period.
Works every time.
good luck

I found mine on cars.com. I bought mine in January, it is an 05 6mt GT w/all options except navi for $21k and it only had 7,500 miles. I searched for about a month and found that one at a dealership in Woodfield. I had to haggle till midnight, but I am very happy with my RX and feel I got a good deal. You have to search and then haggle, they know winter is around the corner and the 07's are coming out, so you should be able to also get a good deal. Good Luck.
