Center Console gets really hot...

So I have a tendency to put my phone in the center console/ cup holder thingy and then close the lid cause I like to keep my arm resting on the lid.
I notice that when I park or take my phone out it is really hot, as well as all the other contents that are in the cup holders (I don't like to have drinks or food in my car so I rarely use the cup holders to hold cups... haha)

Anyway, just wondering if this is normal.

OR, you could leave it as it is and use it to keep your coffee warm, or even cook some instant noodles in there as someone else stated.

Don't know what the orignal poster's year was, but I can confirm that my SII '09 R3 has the same 'heated console feature'. I read in the "SI-SII differences" thread that they switched to a one-piece heat shield under the console but apparently that had no affect on the issue. Not just the cup holder but the whole console gets warm, even the shift ****.

Mainly when engine is warm then shut down, and the heat has time to radiate up.

Hmm.. I've never noticed the cup holders being well, noticably warm... And my fan has only come on after turning the car off after really long drives..

08 GT.. ~8600 miles.
