center console and foot well are very HOT...Any ideas?

Hi Again All,

My new RX8 is treating me GREAT...

After following a club members suggestion on breaking in my new sled at just over 800 miles I was going to let loose up to 6000 rpm's BUT as I hit around 5300 I noticed I was going 102 miles per hour UP A HILL no less so I still have not hit 6000 rpm...

WHOOOO HOOOOO

Now the subject of this post...
My center console and the foot well get way hot when I am driving around town. It has not been too hot around here (mid 80's at most yet the center console and my feet are literally cooking... My Ipod would burn my fingers if I held it after around 20 minutes of driving.

ANY thoughts??? I am thinking I need some heat shielding underneath my space ship...

Cheers and thanks for any thoughts,
Yogi

The Rotory is 2.5x as hot as a piston engine.

There is very little airspace between the tranny and floor pan.

It keeps your coffee hot but turns your cold drink warm in 3 minutes.

Sounds like it's working right, performance rear wheel drive vehicles generate lot of heat. Don't add heat shielding very dangerous idea, heat needs to escape from the bottom. With the AC on it should not be a problem. One of your 2 center AC vents should be pointed down a bit so it help cool the console.

Meh......if you look at what I proposed all it simply does is not allow(or cut back on) the heat transfer to the plastic area of the cup holder. Think you're being way overly conservative in this case!

Push that button/ switch from KMs to MPH and that 102 will be less.

It's normal. I messed up my ipod touch when I had it inside the center console. When you drive for awhile you'll start to also notice warm hot air coming out of the air vents if you don't have the AC on.

Miami + RX8 = FML.

Seems about right to me, 5000 rpm is roughly 100 mph in 6th gear.

Mine is always hot but once it was hot enough to almost burn my skin.... I think it's just something that happens some times.
