CEL Today: No Performance Loss...

This morning when I got into my car to go out to breakfast, the CEL light was solid. This is the first time I have experienced this light and it has been solid the entire time it has been on. I went and re-screwed my gas cap back on (I realize it won't turn off until the dealer resets it). I took it back out for a quick drive just to see if there was any power loss, hiccups, or any other noticable differences, but NOTHING.

Does everyone think it is probably the gas cap? Or are there other reasons that wouldn't affect the drivebility at all. I am scheduling an appointment for Monday b/c my inspection ends in April and I need to get a scan on my airbag light that came on about a week ago.

Please feel free to give me your thoughts on my situation.

ALSO: I have a K&N Gen 2 Intake. Will the dealer be a b*tch about fixing the light b/c I have an aftermarket intake on? I have an 04 BB with 47,000 miles on it.

Has your gas cap been replaced yet? This is a common issue.

The dealer should just read the codes and fix the problems but you never know... It depends on the dealer.

Gas cap has not been replaced yet. I am going to have them hook it up and see what code it reads. I am just dreading them saying something like my CAT or something. I really hope its very simple and fixable on spot.

The other problem is I have to take it to the dealer here at PSU that I don't think too kindly of, but it is the only dealer close and I don't want to drive 2.5 hours home with the CEL lit in case of further problems.

EDIT: Also, I mine as well post another question so I don't start another thread. MY keyless entry 'clicker' thing stopped working as of a few days ago. I changed the battery and had the new battery tested to make sure it was full (it was), but none of the buttons work. Is something like this covered? What's the cost if it's not? Anyone have problems with this?

Trust your ears my friend. I drove to Montreal (300 miles each way) and back with my first CEL. The car was running fine.

Yeah I agree, I took it back out to rev it and feel the car because I am very familiar (obviously) with how it runs. It ran fine, so I am going to see what they say and if I am less than satisfied, I will take it home with me. Thanks for your help DarkBrew! If you have any insight on the key, please share.

If anyone else has thoughts, please share!

Your trunk or your hood is not shut tight. You need to stop spending so much time in the mountains with the Nittanys and not getting proper exercise.

Try driving down to the local Autozone, Advance, or NAPA auto parts store and ask them to hook up your car to their tester. They can give you the code(s) probably sooner than you can get into the dealer, and can reset it for you. Might speed up the process a bit, and if the CEL doesn't come back on, you'll know it's the cap. If it does come back on, have the dealer dig into it. That's what I'd do.

So my Mazda dealer just called me today to tell me that the CEL was due to a loose gas cap (like myself & probably everyone had expected). The airbag light was due to a loose connection in the driver's side front partition piece. I couldn't get my keyless entry system checked b/c I didn't have the second remote with me, but I'm def. relieved and feel good about such minor problems. Everything was covered under warranty and they replaced my cap.
