Hi Everyone,

I own a 2006 RX8, with appoximately 20000 miles driven on it.

I just recently (2 days ago) drove to Oregon from Los Angeles in 1 day (950 miles).

Halfway during the trip, the yellow box light came on (check engine light).

I tried to to open and close the fuel tank lid and rotated it until it "clicked" but still the light remained on.

When I got to the destination, and let the car sit for a few hours, and then turned on the engine again, the light came off.

What happened?

Should I bring the car in to be checked?

Is there a recall on the fuel lid cap?

Thank a lot.

Going out on a limb here.... but add oil.

1k miles is like 4-5 fill ups for me and its a constant drive. But i would think that would set off additional lights.

My hunch is that, assuming you've done everything "right" (kept an eye on the oil level, etc.), it's probably nothing. If it were my 8, I'd bring it to the dealer for its next scheduled oil change and have them check the code then.

Normally, that would set off the oil light if the oil level was low.

However, the CEL code should be stored and you should be able to pull it at an autozone if you're curious.

If I had to guess, I would say maybe your rear 02 sensor was acting up because of the sustain heat coming through your cat. Because you had no other symptoms like mis fires, changes in rpm or mpg, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
