Careful out there; just broke a key lock lug nut while putting on snow tires

Well, this sucks.

I just broke the key lock lug nut while mounting my snow tires/winter wheels.

I believe 108 ft-lb is the correct spec, right?

I still can't believe the composition of the OEM lugs, though. It sheared at a 45 degree angle, and it's almost like a MIM grade material.

I also now have residual matter around that stud that I do not believe will be easily gotten off with a thread chaser, if at all.

Can anyone recommend a quality set of lugs?

Also, those of you who've replaced wheel studs have any helpful tips on pitfalls to avoid?

Thanks.

This (which is what I should be running)

Gorilla Automotive Products - Lug Nuts, Wheel Locks, Auto Security, Wheel Accessories

I have these, I have the ET-Black Chrome, because R3.

Also put a dab on Anti Seize on all the studs, it helps a lot.

dammit, I helped someone when I promised I would not anymore. What is wrong with me.

Thanks, brother. Pay it forward always wins!

Not to be too redundant, but I'm assuming those lugs are more solid than the Mazda OEM ones?

Mazda OEM are not very stout, the plating is not very good and peels off with time.

The Lifetime Gorillas are a very safe bet.

I just ran my RX8 hard on the Tail of the dragon with the ET- Black Chromes on it and not a problem. I am pretty confident they will hold up long term. But, if you have any doubt, buy the Lifetimes.

I change my tires a lot as well as bleed my brakes a lot so I need a lug that is going to hold up.

Tire Rack sells the Gorilla line as well, I purchased mine through Amazon.

Aha! Just what I needed to hear to instill confidence that they'll hold up.

Just purchased them online.

Much obliged.
