Car Keyed

So I'm feeling pretty good about my Rx8. Just got the N flash, car detailed and I'm on a date with a beautiful woman. Sounds like a perfect Saturday night right...guess again. I even valet parked my car and it was right in front of the restraunt. Come out after dinner and their is a 2 foot long key mark on the rear suicide door! Of course I ask the valet what the hell happened...his response was "are you sure that wasn't there?" IDIOT! Needless to say the valet company is NOT responsible for any damage. I will probably take the car to the same bodyshop that fixed my car in the past. Anyone have an idea as to how much this will hurt my wallet? Thanks for listening to the rant...guess there are too many haters out there.

I have been keyed 3 times. I was going to get the first one fixed then it happened again, on the other side, and I just got depressed. Then some *** went and broke into my car for $5 and missed the window with his brick and dented my door so that key mark got fixed (somethng like 900$ because he broke the lock as well) but they didn't fix the first one. Then at Midnight mass on Christmas eve someone keyed my car on the same side as the first one. I want to get it fixed but its just going to happen again so I dont get motivated to.

Just though I would share my story to cheer you up =]

I had a black Corolla SR5 that was keyed three times in the same parking lot. I even had a stakeout the third time, and somehow missed the person who did it. Never went back to that place again.

What restraurant is this? Somewhere in the OC?

Like Rotary Rasp said.. about 300-500 would be a fair estimate. Depending on how deep the keying is, it may cost more. If it's fairly light scratches, they can buff it out.

It was in Fullerton, CA outside Stadium Brewery. Maybe Fullerton is a curse for my Titanium baby. This is the same place where the drunk driver plowed into it in November! Don't know what the solution would be...can't really take a date on my Ducati

You have my sympahy on this one.

About a year ago, decided to have a romantic weekend with my girlfriend up in Northern California.

All was going well and when I awoke the next morning, I found that someone had keyed an ANARCHY symbol onto the hood of my Mazda 626! I can't even begin to tell you how FURIOUS I was! I can't even imagine what I would have done had I owned an RX8 and someone did that to me.

Good luck getting it fixed. Hopefully it won't hurt the checkbook too bad.

Fullerton, huh? Let me know where you get it fixed if you don't mind since I'm in OC and might some day need a good detail shop. Thanks

Good Body shop in the OC

Well I can tell you from personal experience that Autotrends in Anaheim is great. The damage to my car was about $10k (from the drunk driver) and they did a great job putting her back together. I'll let you know what they end up charging for the key marks after I get the estimate.

Man there really needs to be stiffer penalties for keying someones car. That is just the lowest thing on earth to do to someone. Especially to a random car, I can maybe, I said maybe see if its someone you really hate, but even then its one of the weakest moves there is. I think if your caught keing a someones car they should get one hour with you in a locked room.

Houston. 2 out of 3 keyings and the breakin happened at school, I live in the Third ward right near the University of Houston. Not exactly the best side of town. Sadly I have the rock that was thrown through my window as a souviner =]

The last keying was what upset me the most. There I was at Midnight Mass on Xmas eve at a catholic school. The jackass had just gotten out of mass and keyed my car. I hope he goes straight to hell for that.

Now im back to keeping my '89 volvo 740 Turbo where I live and when I go out I get my car from my parents. Kinda glad as well, some guy ran a red light and hit me in the driverside in my volvo, it could have been the 8.

The remains after breakin:

Haha. It gets worse. My brother was driving in his g35 a few months after he got it and a guy merged into him. Ended up my brother got blamed, the guys insurance company claimed failure to yeild because he had pulled out of our driveway maybe 30 seconds before. He says its funny because the guy honked at him and continued to drive into him instead of straightening out and driving in his clear lane. Then about 3 weeks after that a 10 inch thick branch fell on top of my dads car denting the hood an ripping off the passenger side mirror.

Key Repair estimates

So I went to 3 different auto body shops. Okuda, Autotrends and Fixx... They all range from $460-$515. I guess they have to paint the whole suicide door and blend the door and rear panel to match. I guess I'll just have to live with the key mark a while longer. Just paid for my Racing Beat spoiler and am on the list for the Intake. In the meantime I guess I'll borrow my buddy's orbital waxer and see if that makes it look any better.

Sorry to hear it, Crowboy66. That stinks.

In the Polls section I started a poll on the colors of cars that get vandalized just to see if there is any pattern.

My car got a 2 inch key sratch on the top of the trunk.

But for some reason, my car gets door dents, not keyed.

You know, when you park next to someone and when they open their doors it hits the side of your car.

I hate that ****. people are so careless of other people's property

Wow, that is some sad sad stories. Makes you wonder what motivates people to do that to other people's cars. I can see if they were your mortal enemy or something but this is a complete stranger!

Sorry to hear that guys.
