Car hit a curb =(

Well, my car just hit a curb today.... the story is that there was a car that stalled out on the second left turn lane. I was on the lane right next to him on the right side. Well, as a concerned driver (i always stop for people that are stalled out on the side of the road), i felt bad and looked back on my side view mirror (driver side). Trying to find out what happened, i didnt realize that the road was slightly turning to the right. I realzied that when my ran into the curb, no damage except for the rims LUCKILY. It seemed like a hard hit but only the rim was damaged, not the spokes. The rim is scratched around half of it. Doesnt look like anything from a distance but as you go closer, a killler. Well, im paranoid about other damages to like the axle or whatever. But yeah... i dont know, i just thought i needed to vent my feelings of guilt and paranoia on here cause you all always say the right things. Also, i feel so stupid about this and i feel like i dont deserve this beautiful car anymore.

Sorry for the sob story everyone.

- Jon

Yea, I got paranoid when I curbed, and it was a real bad one. A minivan didn't see me and was moving into my lane so... instead of beeping, i jerked the wheel and curbed my 2 passenger side rims. both with 2 of the spokes scrapped.

Anyway, don't worry about it. It is fixable. You deserve the 8.

I always had this feeling that one accident always distracts others to bring about another accident. Remember keep eyes forward!

How does the alignment feel? Was it the front rims? Bring to a tire shop (les schwab) to check out the suspension arms/links for damage and the alighnment. That service is the only way to put you to ease, esp. if you said it "seemed" like a hard hit. As for the rim... not sure how you can fix that.

Lesson learned: keep your eyes on the road. You and your 8 are too important

Same thing happened to me. Was driving at night with poor visibility and didnt notice the road closing in on me. Anyway, I curbed the rear right tire too. Seemed like a hard hit and only the rim was scraped a bit. I too was worried about the axle and alignment. Best to take it in.

that might not mean anything. a lot of roads are graded slightly to help with water runoff, which could lead to a slight right-pulling bias. but if you think you hit the curb hard enough to mess anything up, then definately get it checked out.

better to find out now before chewing up a set of tires.

there is a way to have the wheel repaired without having to replace it......your service center should have a place that will come out and repair wheels, they usually charge about 100-150 dollars per wheel....but they can straighten bent wheels and refinish them for you so it looks like nothing ever happened

Haha, i know, i usually do. i guess there was a conflict of intrest in my head between going out worrying about the stray driver and driving. I know its my fault and i seriously learned my lesson. First time and last time this happened to me. I guess all those times on the track never taught me to deal with this. But yeah, thanks for all the advice!

I suspect you will discover that steel wheels can often be straightened but cast wheels cannot. Once you "bend" a cast alloy metal it's basically broken and/or substantially weakened at that point. If you find someone who claims to be able to straighten a cast alloy wheel, beware. Remember, if a wheel fails while your at speed, it could be bye, bye for you.

True, but the wheel isnt bent, just scratched on the rim luckily, no bends or anything on the rim. It would of sucked if the whole rim got bent though =\
