Car feels slow, drive feels sloppy...

Okay, this might be an issue, or it may not, so I'm starting this thread here. This isn't an attempt to troll, I'm done with that.

Recently, I've started feeling that my 8 is slower than it was. The "feel" of the drive isn't as buttkicking as before. It's losing the "ooomph" when I start from a stop.

Maybe it's just me becoming more precise with my pedal work. This is my first car afterall. I did cause my clutch to start burning before, when I slipped my clutch at 5000rpm accidentally (I tested it a few days after that, trying to get the car moving from a stop in 6th gear. Didn't feel any slipping). Since then, I've felt a slight difference in drive feel. It might be just me being paranoid...

Have anyone else here experienced something similar? I don't have access to another RX-8 to test drive.

if anything it might be time to change your coils and your sparkplugs, how many miles do you have on the car?

It was apparently a test to see if its time for a new clutch.

So this is all from carbon? I do redline the car rather often..., about once or twice a week.

It's at 25,000 miles now.

Troll pentance(sp?)......gotta love it!

Seriously...at 25k, I think I would go after the plugs(and maybe wires while you at it). Then comes the coils and possible compression test.........but I think you're probably okay on the compression based on what you have said.
Redline.................well, I do it at least twice each day.

Spark plugs hm? I'm a mechanical n00b, so I'm curious about what you mean by "coils". The springs on the suspension?

No................coils provide the electricity to the spark plugs. They can be found on the opposite end of the spark plug wires from where the spark plugs are.

Gotcha.

How much do you think the entire charade will cost me? I'll prolly go for high end parts (within civilian accessible limits), so no Duralast nonsense.

in this order check these things...

plug wires tight. ? this is free.

look at plugs. if you have over 20k miles on them replace them.. 50 to 75 bucks

if those checks dont help replace the coils.. i have 0ne set left.. pm me if you want them.. new oem 129 bucks. useds much less.

When you say "sloppy", do you mean body roll and sway?

I've got that same feeling, but was thinking it was the tires ... ?

No. The body roll is fine. It's just when I go from a stop.

If I'm correct....with my experience with other cars...and being I only had an rx-8 for 3 days I may be wrong...but you would test your clutch by pulling out in high gear...but the car should stall if the clutch is good.

Heh. I've tried that too. I try and keep it at 35PSI, but have tried 40PSI as well.

I guess that's what I get for cheaping out and getting SPTs!?

Okay, I sent the car in for a full fluid swap today at the stealership. They were gonna charge me $500 for everything.

They also told me the spark plugs are worn out, and was gonna charge me $215 and more for them to be replaced.

I decided to do it myself. So, what do I need?

You are going to need 4 spark plugs:
2 trailing and 2 leading
http://www.sparkplugs.com/results_ap...1&AAIA=1431319
NGK is what you need, 2 of each of the plugs listed

For Fluids:
5 quarts of Oil, your choice. I've used 5w20 Castrol GTX and recently switched to 5w30 Royal Purple Full Synthetic (Works Great, Very Smooth)

Oil Filter, I use Bosch 3300

For Transmission I use Royal Purple SynchroMAX (You'll need 2 quarts, it only takes 1.8 though)

For Differential I use Royal Purple MAX Gear 75w90 (Also Need 2 Quarts, but it only takes 1.5)

I haven't replaced Coolant yet so I can't help you there.

I think thats it for Fluids, besides Brake Fluid.

There are DIYs for all of this in the DIY forum so check them out

EDIT: All of the fluids I listed are what I use, and can be replaced with whatever you prefer. Others seem to like Redline for trans and diff. Some use Full Snthetic for engine oil others use dino. It all up to the owner of the car so whoever responds lets not get into a debate over what everyone should use. There are already places for that.

Are you sure it's not your mind?

you asked.... It would be a waste to begin replacing parts just because you think it is slower.

You may have gotten use to the car and it's acceleration.

Bingo.

I dont mean to sound offensive since this is an 8 forum but the 8's acceleration isnt mind boggling to begin with. Im sure after months of daily driving it, it will feel like any other car out there.

Check simple DIY things first. If they check out fine. Just relax dude and enjoy the car and stop worrying.
