Exclamation Car Dilemma...

I ordered an RX-8 at the beginning of August from my retarded dealer and the car was supposed to arrive October week 1. I went back to my dealer in early October and found out that my original sales rep quit. In addition they told me that my car should be coming in at the earliest October 7th...Well that hasnt happended and Im getting more irriatated as the weeks go by.

I get this email from work the other day saying that since I am a new hire, I get to participate in Subaru VIPs of America Program. Basically I get a non-transferable card that allows me to get any Subaru I want for invoice price.

I just called Mazda today and they told me that my new ETA for my car was going to be Decemeber week 2 with a build date of October 7th. I realized that my dealer doesnt know what the heck they are talking about since the said that the ETA was October 7th (when it was actually the build date).

Now I am in a big dilemma. I find myself doubting mazda's service and whether I should get an RX-8. I have been waiting for this car to come for about a year now. Ive come to love rotary and the uniqueness of it. I know that the RX-8 looks better, but I am just getting frustrated. I dont know if I can wait any longer...Ive just has a string of crappy luck. Should I just get the STI and wait for the possible RX-7 to come out? What are u guys thoughts?

*If I change dealerships then I lose my $500 + 4yrs of free service (value of ~$1500)

How does August to November turn out to be a year??

Now you know how we feel in the UK - Orders as far back as end of 2002, and cars just starting to arrive next week.

You could order an Impreza, but it looks a bit crap?

Why not do a search, find the RX-8 you want, and go and get it...is what you ordered so specific that no one will have the exact vehicle?

YES. I hate to use this term, but, sounds like a no-brainer.

edit: Changed my mind after looking into the $ figures - see my next post below.

Why not just buy a used fd3s...if not that, then I'd get the STI and wait for the rx-7 to be re-released.

from www.kbb.com :
Base Pricing
28,580.00 invoice
30,995.00 MSRP

Destination Charge 550.00

Price With Destination Charge and Required Equipment
29,130.00 invoice
31,545.00 MSRP

So, you're gonna save $2,415. Not as much as I thought.

I thought you were gonna be able to dump it at any time for an RX-7 or RX-8 without loosing any $.

Not the case, cuz it's gonna depreciate more than that off the dealer lot. The deal is not good for a short-term thing.

I'm gonna back up on what I previously posted, out of ignorance. Sorry, but I don't think anyone can answer this. If it was me, I would stick with buying an RX-8 from another dealer (dump that dealer ASAP). I don't really know how you feel about the 2 cars.

edit: Darn! I'm having to eat my words again! OK. Due to the $500 & frre maint., don't dump your dealer - not YET. See my other post below...

STI just isn't a RX-8 period. Get that if you want but you will never feel the way you feel driving your 8 !

In my opinion the wrx sti is plain ugly, sorry owners.

Ever hear of negotiation? Go to a better dealer, and give them an offer.. Don't forget to get financing approved beforehand, and have some cash for a down payement. You can probably get $1000 under invoice if you're hard on them..

That's right, make them pay you to take the car... j/k typo.

You can probably get the sticker price on a new RX-8 for ~$1000 under MSRP, if you negotiate..

First-off, it's not mazda's service that you are doubting - it's the dealership's sales service.

Having said that...

You threw a wrench in the works with your edit...

I would tackle this on two fronts...simultaneously.

1) Go to the dealership and basically tell them you are dead serious about how things have been going thus far & that their promises are no longer good enough, that you are conferring with mazda customer assistance to ensure that there will be no more surprises.

2) Do just that. rx8orders@mazdausa.com is the email and 1-800-222-5500 is the phone number. I would start it off with a nice long email, & tell them every little thing. They will get with the dealership to discuss the matter, perhaps even getting the Mazda District Representative for your region involved. I had an issue or two myself & they were great!

That happens to me too... I order in May and the sale rep went back to Honda and lost my invoice. They reorder it and now I am getting it this Friday.

I have $400 off as I preorder the car and now I sorted out my money so that I can pay it off now. I have extra put it as bonus as compensation.

I still go for an RX8 if I were you. No other car in the price range suits me. I test driven STi, S2000, 350Z, S3, Z4, 147GTA, Lotus Elise.

Nothing have all round feature like the RX8 so I stuck with my order.

I suggest you look around town to other dealer if you have not paid a significant amount of deposit.

Thanks for contacting Mazda.

Using the VIN you have provided I was able to determine this vehicle
was manufactured on October 7, 2003 and has an estimated arrival time
of the second week in December.

For more information on this you may want to contact your Mazda
dealership. For further updates feel free to check back in the next
few weeks.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to
assist you. Please feel free to reply to this message with any further
questions or comments.

go for the STI. I got an RX8, but if they are going to d*ck you around like that, just screw em. Go to another dealer and pic one off the lot, or get that STI.

RX8 and STi is totally different sort of cars to be honest. How can they be compared?

One is classy and sexy ... other is muscular and tough look... the owners are different tribe of people in the Japland... Anyone know Initially D cartoon - the rotary boys are the up class rich ******** (like me) and the Evo monsters are like the gangers (sorry if I offended anyone - including myself :D)

I don't know what to say but my dealer call me up to pick up the car tomorrow D

Exclamation Updated!

I get a totally unexpected call from my dealersip yesterday saying that a car with my exact specifications came in. It was originally a preorder but the guy who ordered backed out at the last minute. Im doing negotiations with them now, and Im setting up my finances. I turned in my "Buy Back Offer" letter from Mazda last month but I left the VIN# off the sheet because it wasnt availiable at the time. I wonder if I get the deal even though im picking up a different car than what I originally ordered?

*Did MSRP really go up $100 with just plain touring?
