Can't play MP3 CDs in OEM CD player?
According to the manual, I should be able to play CDs with MP3s in the OEM 6-disc changer.
The CDs load without any error, but don't play (and, yes, the changer plays audio CDs fine).
I burnt the CDs with iTunes. Anyone have any experience with this? Is iTunes incompatible with the Mazda CD player?
(ps - if this should be posted in a different forum, please advise)

there are different radios that you can have, the manual just covers them all.
Its either the single disc cd, 6 disc changer, single disc with MP3. (correct me if i'm wrong)
You can get an ipod attachment also.

I didn't know that we could play mp3's in the oem player... i also didn't browse the manual though.
Usually if the deck will play mp3's, you'll see a little mp3 thing somewhere near where you put the CD in...
and yes, i know, this post doesn't really help... sorry!

So can anyone tell me how to find out if my OEM CD player is MP3 compatible?
The thought that it would have an MP3 logo on it is not necessarily true - I own 2 cars that do play MP3 CDs, a Chevy Aveo that does have the logo right on the player, and a Corvette that has a compatible 6-disc changer but does not have the logo.
Thanks . . . Stu

Never fear, Jedi is here!
There are 3 different version (as mentioned above) Single Disc, 6 disc, and MP3.
As far as I know, no RX-8's in the US came equipped with the mp3 version as it is a dealer option.
I swapped out my single disc for the mp3 and added the face plate.

you can usually find the mp3 version at www.finishlineperformance.com

If my car didn't have the ipod interface already in it when I bought it, I was still be using cds.
I liked the mp3s from cd in my cobalt. It was great and cheap. Sadly I broke down and bought a used 2gb nano....I felt so dirty. Luckly it's hidden in the glove box all the time.

That sucks. Functionality that you can't even use. Try a different brand of CDR and some other regular discs. If it doesn't play regular CDs take it to the dealer.
the first thing i did when i got my 8 back in '04 was remove and sell the 6 disc changer and replace it with the MP3 single. the MP3 disc stored a hell of alot more songs than 6 normal discs anyway.
