Can i take my rx8 with me to another country?
Well, seems my company is talking about me opening and managing their branch in UAE (United Arab Emirates) and working over there from anywhere to a year - thee years. Thats the country where dubai, abu dhabi etc are the cities. Seems they dont have rx8's sold there.
Anyone know if i can take my texas rx8 out there, or where I can find if i can or cannot? I don't wanna leave my baby behind

yea thats what i figured. but i was wondering why they dont sell any rx8's over there?
I need to ind out if i can import a car that not sold in a country. maybe it's for a good reason. but hell i know it aint safety, cause the US has stricter regulations than the UAE on that.

so if the market is too small or already loaded with auto companies. there is no point for Mazda to put their feet into the market. correct ?

Is the warranty expired on your 8? If you still have a ways to go on warranty i would be hesitant to take it just due to not having anywhere to take it should the engine or tranny decide to take a poo (and with those temp's its a possiblity). Tuff decision. But hey, i assume gas prices are alot lower there...or are they?

Why would the UAE temps kill the Renesis? They can be up in 100s, even 110, but that's not all that different from Arizona, and we have plenty of AZ 8's running well. (example thread)
Do the throttle body bypass mod.
Moreover, you will get quite a lot of attention with an uncommon car... if you like that kind of thing.

thanks the the info guys.
I will have to see if there are any regulations against an rx8 there. I still have ALOT of miles till my waranty. Another thing I will have to do is call Mazda and ask if my warranty will be good in a country where they dont sell the rx8. But, i doubt there will be any qualified mechanics even at the dealership to work on the car...yikes.
It would be a odd car out, that'd be cool BUT this mechanical/warranty/dealership nightmare might be too much and I may just sell my car before I leave.

it's hard to find rotaries in many countries because there just aren't any mechanics trained to handle them.
I grew up in chile and they never had any rotaries there at all, they started selling rx-8s down there about 2 years ago now and I would be very afraid to buy one just because I wouldn't trust the mechanics down there to have any idea of what to do with them. One of my high school buddies is considering buying one and I kinda want to talk him out of it despite my love for the cars, his other choice is an S2000.
I share the heat concerns, altho dubai is at least close to the persian gulf so that might make temperatures a bit lower.
I'd love to have the only rx-8 in a whole country, everyone would stare at it and ask you if it was a ferrari, it can hold it's own against all those mega-name supercars that they have in dubai if no one knows what it is when they first see it

man I asked the same question to a local (uae) forum. the responses I got from the local people were almost dead on with your opinions.
Good jobs guys!

You could probably take your car there, but I wouldn't. Those guys drive like absolute madmen over there. The heat is pretty crazy & I don't know why kind of gas they get there so you might have a problem with the Rotary engine. I'd say your best bet would to sell it, or if you want to keep it, have some one store it. They love their money over there & cars. I imagine you could grab any kind of car you want over there... There is always another day for you getting a rotary.. who knows, maybe when you get back they 16x will be back..
Also:
If your company is moving you over there, than I would talk to them about whether or not it can go there. I would think they would be able to tell you?

AAA may be able to give you some of the rules and regs
I would reconsider any car with plastic in places where daytime temp can get to 140 degrees F. We did OK on a trip to Vegas in August - but we really watched the oil and water and gave her a rest in the shade every quarter tank because we had outside temps of 106 - so I tried not to let her run over 75 mph - and we made it to Vegas and back with no problems and a good air conditioner
but I had a red 323 in Vegas and it melted my tapes, warped some plastic stuff and messed up the dashboard -
Would also be concerned about sand - don't think it would do a rotor much good - need something more like a good pickup truck with 4 wheel drive and an oversized air conditioner - and put sheepskin on the seats and steering wheel!
