Californians don't know how to drive in the rain.

I live in socal, and we just had our first rainstorm in months. I drive a canyon home from school occasionally. In two days I've seen three accidents and two people spin out infront of me. The major freeway near me (the 118) almost closed because there were so many accidents this morning. I dont drive an 8 and I dont have any kind of traction control and Ive never had a problem. I wonder if other states that are rainy all the time have this problem?

It's because all the oil on the ground doesn't mix with the rain. There's always soo many crashes during the first rainstorm and people not knowing that. It's not that we can't drive it's just that we all don't think about the oil from all the cars on the road. The second rainstorm there won't be so many.

It's because you're all to busy lip syncing to Miley Cyrus songs, wishing you were on the beach.

i've known about the whole oily-road thing since i started driving, so it always confuses me a bit when others are completely oblivious to this. i guess i'm just lucky, huh? either way, i haven't really worried about the rain since i drove through northern california/oregon last november. now that was a lot of rain; those were some wet, puddle-ridden highways. that said, i live right off pch in l.a., and northbound after you get off the 10 can be pretty nasty if you're in the slow lane, since the gutter they've got going collects enough water to cover most of the lane at parts. nasty stuff.

dont worry i think they are everywhere...we got our first heavy rainfall last month and people were still driving +10 over the limit without their flashers ( it was pretty hard to see about 20yds in front)

I was coming westbound on the 91 today, saw a crash - no idea how it happened though. Yes it was raining, but someone must've been looking at their radio too long or something.

I completely agree and was thinking about starting a thread about it too. Just didn't know where to start lol..

i drive 110 and 10 daily, and WOW really it made me wonder about Socal drivers in rain.
It's like people are FREAKED OUT it's raining and goin 30-40 in freeway or they go 60 above thinking RAIN AINT GONNA STOP ME! and spin out...or get in an accident...

saw some guy actually passing me last night in 110 freeway and just around the corner, his car spunned out and stopped facing towards me Lol
good thing everyone else was driving safely keeping distance, there was no accident.

It was so obvious his rear spun during the corner and stopped in the middle of freeway facing the wrong way lol he wasn't hurt and his car wasn't hurt so I just drove by slowly laughing.... COMON MAN!

I think tires are more of a issue than oily road

Being dry season pretty much all year long, LA drivers don't really need much attention on their tire threads. I've seen so many cars with such bad tire threads, I had a bad feeling about driving on the road since the rain started.

bad tires + crazy LA traffics + Rain = bad news

I don't even want to IMAGINe about getting snow here

/\ It would be an epic fail.
Trust me, watching an accident isnt pleasant, unless you know it's gonna happened right when it started.

i work at riverside community hospital and trust me it always gets busy when it rains. for the most part we all think we are good drivers but all it takes is one person that does not know how to drive in the rain to cause a pile up on the freeway. you guys on the east coast have rain all the time here in cali we get an inch of rain and its a masive storm.

I can't wait for global warming, I hate driving my 8 in the snow. That's why I'm just going to get a beater so I can hit stuff and not even worry about it.

i am definitely looking forward to not having to drive my 8 in the snow this year. that is how my rx-8 "version 1.0" was totaled. version 2.0 isn't going to drive on ice or snow

unfortunately with global warming, it is hard to say what areas which areas will get warmer and which will get colder. if it gets warm in one spot, it has to get colder somewhere else with my luck, i will be in that somewhere that gets colder

same **** in Nova, first drop hits the ground and the drivers see a tidal wave and drive off the road.

I've lived in SoCal my whole life and even I am appauled at how people drive as soon as one drop of water hits the road.

I was driving home from San Diego yesterday (it was raining) and I saw 4 different accidents including a 5 car paint swap.
This is why I don't drive the RX-8 in the rain. I'm not worried about MY driving skills but the lack of by other people on the road.
