Okay, I'm sick of cleaning the mouse turds off my cabin air filter. Does anyone know where the cabin air intake is?

 

Well I have searched online as I am sure others have as well, but I am unable to determine where the actual intake is for the cabin. I do however, vaguely remember seeing a description of the cabin air system in the official owner's manual; so you might have luck checking there if you haven't already.

 

I believe by the wiper blades

 

It is right by the wiper blades, you'll see holes for it.

If you're getting rat turd caught in the filter then they might actually be living in the system already. They might also have a nest inside your engine bay somewhere.

 

Turn the heater on full blast and see if they come running out.

Makes me curious if i have anything living in my car.

If you are seeing rat turds on your cabin air filter try this. Remove your filters, go to the store buy a mouse sticky trap add a small amount of peanut butter to the middle of the sticky trap and place where the cabin air filters should be. Leave the car alone until the morning and see if you catch one or more. I think that would work best.

 

Or you could do what professional exterminators do.

Pump propane gas in there and light it.

Haha he forgets and like 2 weeks later, everyday in the morning to work he craves a pb&j sandwich.

 

Oh yeah, they’re definitely living in there. This is an on-going problem - I’ve caught 3 with sticky traps already over the past 6 months. They pull the insulation out of the engine bay and build their nest with it. I’ve cleaned nests off the cabin filter twice now; once with the decapitated remains of some small unidentified animal. Yeah, didn’t smell good. And earlier this week I found one on the ECU cover, so I put a sticky trap in front of the opening. The little F’er just rotated the nest 90 degrees to avoid it. I hate these little a$$holes.

I thought the intake might be along the cowl but the holes looked too small to me for a mouse to get through. Is there any other way in?

 

Mice can get into the oddest places. I guess you should bring your car to a professional to get rid of this problem. Plus you do not want them to chew on any wires causing a short or fire.

 

This tougher/longer than usual Winter, on both my [non-winter driven] '8 and daughter's '6, the CAF provided a cozy home for mice. In the '8 they borrowed some of the firewall insulation material just above the windshield washer reservoir and in my daughter's the engne cover insulation, and carried it to the outdoors side of the filter. Both vehicles had quality well-fitting covers, so obviously they came up from below. Never happened before and I'm glad I caught it early Spring. Even as I was ticked off I had to accept that they are pretty industrious creatures.

Next season I'll resort to my tried and true mothballs in a sock deterrent.

Unfortunately it's not just A rodent. Once they mark the area it becomes a war of attrition that I can't win. For every one I capture, there'll be 10 to fill his place. I tried containment first but it was too late. Then I tried to repel them with mothballs and some BS ultrasonic device. Still no dice, it just burned my lungs when I drove.

I'm now working through various levels of exclusion. Covering the car didn't work. Nor did enclosing it with a 14-inch-high smooth sheet metal barrier (I think they're climbing the structure next to it and hopping over). I'm not a cat lover, but having a number of them next door and in the neighborhood usually solves the problem. But given six contiguous weeks of snow cover this Winter they didn't cover as much territory as usual and a couple of mice won a short tem battle. The cats ultimately won the war.

 

A rodent can squeeze into any hole as long as their head fits through it. They move the bones in their bodies around in order to fit through tight places, the only bone that can't move around is their skull, so that's why they're able to fit into those ridiculously tight spaces.

 

+1 on cats. Nature has always had a way of balancing things. Go with nature... get a cat or two

 

yeah once you actually get rid of what is already in there, is there any way you could just cover the cabin intake holes with some sort of very thick metal netting? I am thinking maybe something from a kitchen strainer or heavier duty like a thin cross pattern wire fencing material.

 

Story about a mouse and its revenge lolol


A mouse got its revenge against a homeowner who tried to dispose of it in a pile of burning leaves. The blazing creature ran back to the man's house and set it on fire.

Luciano Mares, 81, of Fort Sumner said he caught the mouse inside his house and wanted to get rid of it.

"I had some leaves burning outside, so I threw it in the fire, and the mouse was on fire and ran back at the house," Mares said from a motel room Saturday.

Village Fire Chief Juan Chavez said the burning mouse ran to just beneath a window, and the flames spread up from there and throughout the house.

No was hurt inside, but the home and everything in it was destroyed.

Unseasonably dry and windy conditions have charred more than 53,000 acres and destroyed 10 homes in southeastern New Mexico in recent weeks.

"I've seen numerous house fires," village Fire Department Capt. Jim Lyssy said, "but nothing as unique as this one."

Make sure you check your air filter box, trust me, you're gonna find something under your filter...
