A/C leaking inside cabin?

I noticed this afternoon that my passenger floor mat was all wet. When I lifted it up I found water under the mat too and it smelled like crotch. :o My wife and I went out for dinner and she noticed that something was leaking from under the dash to right of the glove compartment.

Could there be that much condensation that it's leaking in buckets from one of the vents? It's been hot and humid here, but no more so than last year and I had no problem then. Also I can hear some sort of sloshing sound coming from the passenger side when I go around turns.

Anyone have any thoughts? I'm gonna call the dealership tomorrow to get it looked at. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. A search turned up nothing.

Could be a wasp or something built a nest in the drain tube.

How does that happen inside the car? I'm allergic to wasps and bees, thanks for putting that thought in my head.

leaves, crud, algae can all clog the drain. Look under the car near the firewall passenger side. Blow it out with air then.

You probably want to remove all the carpeting before mold sets in. If you
re allergic to insects you won't like mold too much either.

My new Corvette came from the factory with the AC drain hose pinched. The condensation reservoir overflowed, and tha floor on both sides got wet. Sounds like you have a blocked drain hose.

Yes. I have seen this several times before on many cars. Your A/C drain is plugged up, and there's nowhere else for it to go but in your cabin once it overflows. If you don't feel comfortable trying to fix it yourself, then take it to a dealer, and they will fix it for you. I'd keep the A/C off from until it's fixed, then steam clean that carpet a couple times. Good luck!!

I haven't looked at the RX-8 drain hose, but the RX-7 3rd gen commonly had the drain hose pulled back into the cabin. Same result you notice. Pull the carpet back and check the firewall passenger side. Or have the dealer do it - should be no charge and take just a few minutes.

If it already smells "like crotch" then mildew and mold spores are already in the carpeting. I suggest finding a carpet cleaning company and have them clean the carpet with enzymes to kill all of the spores. Most companies will guarantee the treatment, so if it does not kill all of the smell the first time they won't charge for the subsequent treatments until the smell is gone. I used Stanley Steamer when I was in FL and had some water damage to another car back in 96.

Could be a bad Heater Core, but the car should be too new for that to happen.
