Smile Buying an RX8 this Saturday

Hey guys, this is my first RX8 and I am very excited on purchasing this vehicle, but I had a couple of questions about this car before I purchased it and maybe someone could enlighten me?

It is a 2004 Mazda RX8 Sport Package, it has around 52k miles on the body, and the engine was just replaced due to warranty, so it has around 30 miles on it now.

It is marked at $10,888 for the car and as far as I can see everything seems to be beautiful on the exterior. I was wondering if this was a good deal on the car or maybe there were some extra things I should look at before I buy it (keep in mind I am a terrible mechanic)

Thanks in advance!

For an '04 I would be looking to spend under $10,000 including tax, tags, etc. Just my 2 cents.

I would never recommend an 04-05 to anyone that wasn't mechanically inclined and was a rotary enthusiast.
I would still steer anyone away from an RX8 (newer models) that wasn't prepared to do the regular maintenance, not to mention if I thought they were cheap or poor.

Just my 2 cents

edit:
I wouldn't pay anything over 10,000 CDN for an 04 or 05 .... even if it was brand new

Why not though? With a newly replaced engine, it seems well worth it.

if he had new engine and all the flashes have been done should be no problem.

Thanks for the information, is there anyway for me to know if it has been flashed? I know that a new 2010 engine was place in the car so thats a plus I believe. I really love the car and I hope its worth it in the end, I don't care forking out more money to keep the car in shape as I know it is needed, anyways, the car is beautiful, so why not? =D

yeah you didn't get a "new" 2010 engine. you got a remanufactured (read: used but fixed) engine. still fine, and still under warranty, but don't let them sell you on the "new" engine.

like someone said, offer their asking price "out the door" and go from there.

also like somone said, make sure ALL tsb's were done to it...you can find the lists here on the site if you search.

Well then ... excellent
I hope that this car becomes a moment of "I love this car sooo much I want to learn all about it!"

Too me, that's the type of person that is a good candidate for an RX8 owner, that and having enough cash to maintain it.
Enjoy and please read the links I posted earlier ... believe when I say its worth your time!

I still refer to them and I've own my 8 since 2005, actually I should go and review them .... I'm old and have a **** memory.

edit:
On the TSB thing: I'm guessing that the dealer should be able to look up the flash information performed on the car by it's VIN number .... I think .. .can only validate this?
Oh and a question about the engine build date ... is there not a serial number on the engine that would indicate the motors build date <dunno I'm asking>

I would refuse to buy it untill the replace the short fuel line in the engine.

Very common for the old fuel line to leak and cause a fire.

Have them put it in writing that they will replace the part for free in the DUE BILL

Where is this line located? I hate to steal the thunder from this topic...but my gas mileage is in the pits, even after new plugs/coils...and I'd love to know why.

i doubt your fuel mileage is down because of a fuel line, unless you somehow managed to clog the fuel filter. By in the pits what do you mean? Whats your fuel mileage right now? My best recommendation is goto www.fuelly.com record it for 6 fuel ups then let us know.

so it is now sunday, was the car in question bought?

on the fuelly note, click on my tag if you need to see how it works. Just to give you a light preview even though I have only used it for 3 months now.

"Pits" as in i'm under 3/4 of a tank and i've only gone 35 miles. I'm getting less than 10 mpg. I just wondered if maybe it were leaking bad enough to be disappearing, but then, I guess, I haven't smelled any gas around the car, and if it were leaking that badly I probably would.
