well the car in question still has 65k miles and 3 years left on the extended Mazda engine warranty, but not bumper to bumper. I would make sure all service and recalls are up to date.

i got my RX8 from carmax a couple months back for around 16 something.
it had around 34,000 miles back then.
i also got the extended warranty, but its absolute crap because i took my car in for brake squeal and they wanted to charge me around $250
$50 for looking at the brakes
$200 for resurfacing the rotors
talk about full covrage warranty!

I personally dont' trust any extended warranties too many loop holes to them it seems.....It does seem pretty high price for an 04..I'd keep shopping around or see if they could work a better deal for you!

yea i have been looking for some on auto trader and most of them have alot of miles on then and practically want more for it...15k seemed like a good price and but since its a rotory engine i dont think they know how to fix it... thats why im asking if thier extended warranty is any good?... they said they would cover bumper to bumper but wont cover tear and wear on brakes and windows and some other stuff... ill still keep looking in this forums if i see a good deal on one... i have 5 day to return it if it doesnt work out...

carmax IS a ripoff!!! my little bro worked for them about a year ago and if you wanna trust me on one thing its DONT BUY FROM CARMAX! they started out pretty well but when they became successful it was all downhill they dont do proper checks, services NOTHING! my little bro drove an 03 audi a4 and he had about 60k miles on it and it HAD alot of trouble ... 5sp manual ... it had been in 2 wrecks that were claimed on insurance and he sold it to them and 3 days later saw the car on the lot for almost double the price salesman stated no wrecks never driven hard etc ... he drove it for the **** of it clutch wasnt replaced broken window switch in the back wasnt fixed cd number 6 was still stuck in and the tire lock was still missing ... stuff you wouldnt notice on a regular but need to be fixed.

Dam i didnt think they were that bad. I did have a friend that used to work in carmax and he did detailing. He told me that they are "supposed" to do the detailing work bout 2-3 times but they always did it once just to save cash and time.

I had a 626 EX in mint cond. with low mileage. Car max offered me half what I later got on a dealer trade for a lincoln. The reason they gave was that it was in an accident and rear left side frame straightened. All true but dealer said it made no difference, it was repaired correctly and offered me full blue book. I know car max would have turned around and sold it for 3x waht they offered me if i had bit. I'll never sell or buy a car by them. They try to screw you by devalueing your selling vehicle or overvalue what vehicle you buy from them.

oh wow if i cant trust them then i might as well buy it from a mom and pop shop or a privated seller... im selling a 86 bronco for 1000 at car max which is more then the blue book has it going for and what i paid for... my plann was to have it for a year to build my creadit and to get to know then engine more then trading it for a new rx8 down the road... its my first time finacing a car any advice?...

there are a ton of rx8 out there at reputable dealers look around youll find one for a better price and probably same spec sheet ... if your credit is good go ahead if not take your mom or dad to cosign so you get a good interest rate also if you dont mind driving or bank financing look on here in the fs section members take care of their cars more IMO so youll find a well kept one here

Skip the carmax warranty, it is a scam... Any problems you have to pay for them to diagnose before they do anything, and in order to do anything they require nearly a full dismantle, which YOU have to pay for...
Also, they DO sell wrecked vehicles... I bought a car from them once, later discovered that it had been in a wreck. When I went back to ask them about it, their response was "Well we are not required to disclose that information"... WTF?!?!! That is their whole sales pitch that they dont sell wrecked vehicles...
I would never go back to them again. The sales process was worse than any other dealership, they are full of lies and re-direction, their prices are not that great (especially if you try to sell them your car...), and they do not stand behind what they claim...

Yeah. Carmax isn't the best place you could go.

Regardless of where you buy the car.. get yourself a "CarFAX" report. I'm pretty sure dealers now will provide one upon request.. but if not just get the VIN number and post on this board, someone usually will be able to run it for you. That way you KNOW if there were any serious problems.. especially in an '04 who might have had it's engine replaced etc..

i like this forum a lot of info and help when you need it.... ill skip the car max now and buy one from a private seller in the forums... seen some good prices on 06 or almost for the same price of the 04...the only reason why i wanted to buy from carmax was because of their reputation on not selling wrecked or beet up cars... every dealer is the same now... thanks to every one for the help... now i need to find a better one...

IMO best bet would b to buy from a member here...at least you know it SHOULD have been taken care of
