350hp is bull, and to say 400hp takes a lot of *****. he is straight lying to you. ~290hp tops. mysql knows, he had that turbo installed for quite awhile.

you still havent answered what the mileage is, and the price they are asking for it.

^+1...if you go used you already know any type of FI voids warranty, on top of that if your not lookin for warranty, than F*ck it go turbo, it saves you time from buyin one and installing it but just make sure the engine itself it in good condition cus im pretty sure you dont wanna hassle and waste time in taking it in and have a new engine put in

The guy who sold it was some rich guy who just decided to trade in his RX8 for a Mazda 3 for his girlfriend, hence why it is at the dealership. Then he went out and got a BMW M3 to console his loss of his RX8 I guess....
Anyway, all I need now is a good approach for bargaining with the salesman.
If it's a Greddy, it's putting down 290 horsepower AT MOST. And if he supposedly spent $20,000, he's an idiot, and if it took two years to install it and any supporting mods, either he isn't rich and worked months for each individual part, or the installer was a retard. Greddy kits retail now just north of $3000 and can be installed in a weekend.

My friend don't buy the car. Remember the car salesman job is to sell you the car he will tell you anything to get you to buy the car Rich guy sold the car for a car for his girlfriend doubt it. Turbo RX8 are a joy to drive but they come with their own problems believe me I have one. You don't know the guy who put the turbo on the car and how he took care of it, he got rid of the car for a reason. If you are going to invest you money in a RX8 buy it new and enjoy modifying the car yourself.

I bought my car used with the turbo kit, clutch, exhaust already installed.

I had full service history records and I also had proof that the guy only put 4,000km on the turbo kit before he sold it to me.

Bought an Acura

Well guys, I appreciate all of the help. I debated the issue for a good week and opted not to buy the turbo RX-8. I really liked the RX-8 and considered buying an 08, however I test drove a TL Type-S and it blew me away! So I'll see you guys out on the streets, you'll get a nice view of my tail pipes!

It blew you away.... an Acura TL????

Yeah, an RX-8 is definitely not the car for you. Have fun looking at the tail lights of any G37 you see.

Hope you're joking. Only way that's happening is if I'm parked somewhere.

Its a Type S yo! It beat the RX-8 and G35 on the track several times. Although I would be afraid racing against you crazy guys with your turbos.

It's $39,000 yo! That's the same base price of a 335i which mops the floor with that car. Not to mention that your TL will probably never see a track any way. Which means that if you get all froggy on the streets, there are plenty of G35s ($33K), IS350 ($36.7K), and 135i ($39K) that will be more than happy to walk on you.

It's a nice looking car and all, but for that price there would be several other cars on my shopping list. Especially considering it's a mid to low 14 second 1/4 mile car.

Enjoy!

This is purely a common sense opinion, but here it is.

I think the salesman saw you as a target to unload this RX8. The guy who traded it in most definitely took it in the behind on a trade, and pissed away a ton of money. People who have lots os cash to blow meaninglessly simply don't care about losing money. I have a rich brother in law who does the same thing. He buys cars, constantly trades them in, sometimes after a few months, and knows he's spending a lot fo moeny but simply does not care.

My guess is that the Hp claim is a classic BS line to lure you in. I highly doubt it produced 350whp, and if it does, the car will not be nearly as reliable as a stock RX8. I would inquire about this car however, since your plans are to turbo an RX8. It's most certainly a risky proposition, being not only that the 04 is proven to be less reliable in stock form, but this car has been modified to a point where there is no doubt significant wear. Turbo'ing an RX8 is an expensive investment all the way across the boards.

The reason why I'd never do it is because in order for the car to be durable and last as long as a stock RX8, you'd have to pamper the living crap out of the car. If you drive a turbo RX8 hard, the engine failing before 50k miles is a very realistic thing. The car simply will not last as long without costly repairs if it's driven a lot and used like a turbo rx8 should be. I see no point in modifying a car and babying it. If it's a rarely driven car, then naturally you can get more life out of it, but there's simply no way a turbo rx8 driven daily is gonna be reliable and durable, unless it's driven easily and just occasionally jumped on.

If you are aware of the true cost to own, and you can get a test drive of this vehicle, get proper information on the HP, and after knowing everything you need to know, then perhaps this is something to consider. Just as long as you are aware, a turbo rx8 is gonna cost you more money long term. it's just the nature of modifying any car, and with an RX8, it's increased even more.

It seems to me your best bet is to go with a new one, but only you truly know that. Good luck in your decision.

Never buy a car that has been heavily modified by someone you don't know.
