I would never recommend going to redline (9Gs) and drop the clutch. There is a thread about a dealer that did that and well, they had to get a new tranny, flywheel and starter from the damage it caused. Might try 3 gs and drop the clutch and see what it does and then you might get wheel hop too. Find out from a dealer what a new clutch costs. I guess about $900 so you want to take it easy on your RX. However I am not a racer but I have put a car on a drag strip before and it was a four speed munzi Corvette tranny and so it could take the punishment but all I did was sit there and wheel hop and smoke up the place while the other guy cooly pulled away without a burn out and beat me down the track. You might think about the cost of tires too after you learn to do burnouts. My opinion and only mine is I did not buy the car to burn rubber and smoke the tires. I bought it to last a long time and hope to get 200,000 plus miles out it. Anyway there's my .02 cents.

You can rev up the car to about 6 or 7 rpms and dump the clutch but don't keep your foot stomped to the floor on the gas and don't just completely dump the clutch, kinda ride it just a little. If you don't you will get wheel hop, if you do it the right way you will burnout.

If you do a burnout properly, all you're going to do is eat through your rear tires fast. ... but if you just drop the clutch at a real high rpm without proper air in the tires, you're probably going to stress the hell out of the clutch and tranny, and get massive wheel hop which will further jolt the tranny and diff thanks to the PPF.

Disclaimer- I don't go around doing burnouts, since I think it's stupid to destroy tires for no reason. I do however have some experience with launching the RX8 while autocrossing and noticed it's much trickier than my Miata.

I've got to get my digital camera and then I'll post some donuts. I was doing them the other night and smoked the S*** out of the tires. I'm actually impressed that the Bridgestone Potenzas held up pretty good. I just don't know how to smoke the tires out in place, the correct way to do it is a little tricky, using two feet on three pedals!

That means "more to come"

Like in 5000 miles you'll be on here complaining about your tires being worn out.

Thats is all

I'm out.

I'm well aware of the fact that my tires will wear quick if I keep doing this. Point being made that I wouldn't have posted that I burn my tires if I gave a rats *** about buying new ones! But thank you for coming on this thread and letting us all know how we will react after 5000 miles. If it weren't for people like you, then I don't know what I would do for intelligence!

Make sure to use proper mullet restraining devices when smoking the rear tires. Gotta make sure you look nice for your sister later.

Hey I wouldn't have said anything about it but it looked like he was trashing anyone who was smoking their wheels. So if he was, then I really don't care who he is, it doesn't give him the right to insult others and make assumptions and then not be able to take his own medicine.

If he wasn't trashing anyone, then my apologizes, just looked that way, it's hard to read emotions on the internet when just typing.

Ok, today there was a misunderstanding in this thread and I owe Snap-on a formal apology. I should have not flamed him on the fact that I thought he was insulting people in this thread about burnouts. I was actually doing exactly what I was getting mad at him for doing, which makes me a hypocrite. Snap-on took the time to p/m me and apologize, so I believe he deserved for me to apologize for everyone to see that we were both wrong.

Proper burnout technique,

I have done this ONCE on my 8 and only held it for 5 seconds. Used to do it all the time on my old FC but I dont want to hurt my 8 so do it at YOUR own risk.

Heal-toe the accelerator and the break on 1st with just a little presure on the break,
rev it to 4000 or 5000 rpm (any more and you will be looking at a new tranmition in a couple of months)

smoothly let the clutch out while keeping the presure on both the accelerator and the break.

Keep your calm and most of all dont freek out and let go of the break and go crash against something (the car will start to dance on the rear end). To end it take your foot off the break keeping presure on the accelerator (this will send you flying) OR engage the clutch and take your foot off the gas.

AGAIN BE CAREFULL, and take good care of your car.

I am posting this only for informative porposes and not to have every NUT out there destroying their cars.
