Burning smell

I tried searching and I know that I will get shown another topic

but if not here it goes

Does anyone have the problem when they dont have the vents on or anything just windows open and sunroof opening and driving and you get a burning smell. I am thinking its my clutch but it happens way too often to be the clutch. My dad said maybe its the brakes or just something else.

Anyone know what it could possibly be

You would definitely know if it's clutch. It has a distinct strong smell. Other than that, do you have an after market exhaust? I know there have been a feel people that say their shrouds melt, so maybe that could be it??

This happened to me when i first got my 8 in 2004. Mazda never gave me an explanation but Im sure its the breaks... Kinda smells like when you put out a candle. After 6 months of owning the car, the smell went away.

The RX-8 also tends to collect plastic bags on the muffler & exhaust system. Make sure you don't have a bag melted to your exhaust somewhere. That smell eventually goes away, too, when it's completely charred.

I had a buring smell. Turned out to be a bad transmission seal leaking fluid on the exhaust. Get the car checked out - you shouldn't be smelling anything.

I could definitely be the brakes. In some cases, the calipers won't open as well as they should and the brake pads continually rub tight on the rotors. I had this happen with a different car of mine.

Cheers!

I had oil smells come and go for the first 6 months of ownership or so. I checked everything out and could not find a problem anywhere, but eventually it just faded away.

i think looked for any bags

found now

i figured it was clutch because i just got my license and are somewhat new still at manual

but i never have stalled or bogged since i have driven it

i notice it is going away

i mean i got the car in june fully certified pre-owned and then it sat and would get out and be drive once every 2 weeks until mid august id take it out once a week atleast and now i drive it everyday and i either have become acustomed to the smell or it is going away

Hmm I willing to bet it is clutch your smelling if you new at driving manual.

Bit of advise just remember to take your foot of the gas when you depress the clutch pedal to change gears.

Ohh and no matter how much your friends try to get you to eat that yellow snow cone dont!!!!

x2

I had a seal go bad too and it smelled bad (not like a clutch, but still stinky).

The dealer took care of it under warranty
