Unhappy Broken headlight - please help

I was turning a corner at my local town center and I hit the curb and I hit one of those little recreational trees, my headlight is cracked and I am not to sure on what to do. Im almost positive I have the hid lights and I don't want to buy an entire new 1000$ headlight. my lights still work, the only thing is that the plastic glass thing in front of it is broken. It rains alot from time to time would this cause any electrical problems? Please help

You need to stop boozing it.

I would tape it up with clear tape asap! Keep the rain/water out. Next look around online for some after market light. You can get a linz from your dealer and get the lights from a nother party.

Good luck.

Why are you only worried about the headlight. That looks like an insurance claim to me. You have a separated tire, probably a damaged rim. The headlight of course, front facia and underspoiler. You might have oil cooler damage. The tire may be ruined, and the fender needs replacement as well. You do have insurance, don't you?

Thanks for the advice, I do have insurance and I am going to get it looked at soon. As for the rims; that rim you see is cracked and I did replace them with aftermarket rims. I will post up a pic showing the side where the rim was cracked and the bumper chipped. I am not to sure of the oil cooler, I need to look into that, If it was damaged is there a change in driving or something I should feel that is different? Thanks for you alls help.

Just watch your oil level and pressure guage (does the 8 have a guage?) and watch for leaking oil at the damage area.

I would be way more worried about your suspension than your headlight. You probably have a bent shock/control arm/tie rod down there.

So this picture kind of shows a bit more of the story. This is a side view, you can see the headlight at a different angle, also you can see the rim cracked. Is there some kind of safety flaw in the 2004 rims because they seem to break easily. I have noticed some other threads in here and he claims he was going 15mphs, I know i was going between 20-25mph

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ght=broken+rim

Its just very interesting because the mazda rims seem to crack under little pressure compared to alot of other rims from companies. Something interesting to ponder about.

Anyways back to the car, If I posted pictures of it underneath and side and more detailed to where the hit was would you all be able to see damage that a regular person can't see? Other than that I covered the headlight with tape for the time being, but since the headlight itself still works, is there anyway I could just buy the plastic lens cover for it instead of the entire piece, if not, know of anygood places to buy the headlights? Like any of the vendors that sell it here? Thank you for your input

Judging from that last pic you posted I'd say you definetely did some suspension damage and you should be more worried about taking care of that. If you hit the curb the way I think then the bottom of your wheel impacted the curb. This in turn bends the bottom of the wheel towards the middle of the car and pushes the top of the wheel outwards giving you positive camber. Depending on how fast you were going you AT LEAST need to get your alignment checked and see if they can bring it back in spec and also have them take a look and see if your control arm/tierods or any other components are bent. If you hit the curb hard enough to knock a tire off a rim then you probably have about 2 grand in suspension/frame damage alone.

Driving on bent suspension components will be dangerous to yourself and the public so please get it taken care of before your headlight, it's a much bigger hazard.

Let me guess.... Not attaking or flaming here, but either the poster does not have insurance, does not have the deductible, or is young and away at school and trying to hide this from parents. I don't know for sure, but I doubt that cheap aftermarket lights are available yet. This is a collision, not a broken headlight, and the car needs to go to the shop. I guess the 8 is now old enough that we'll see 8 beaters tooling around now. I'm sorry, it's apparent you're in some kind of pickle, but we can't diagnose it by internet. There's a reason why you haven't taken it to the shop or called insurance company yet. Come clean and someone here might be able to help you out who has been in a similar situation.

Alright I got the pictures of where I hit so there isn't any confusion, and just to clear up something things, YES I am young, YES I am in college, YES my mom does know, YES I do have insurance, NO I wasn't drunk, YES im taking it in, my appt is on tuesday. So this pictures show what a recreational tree is.

The picture is hard to see but where I say this is where I hit thats the curb I hit. Ok to kinda explain what happened, It was late I finished watching a movie at Regal, and I noticed the parking lot was mostly empty, So I pulled out of the space and then I noticed a turn up ahead, a turn to the right, and I was just feeling cocky and felt like I could kinda ease my way through it without a problem, there really wasn't to much room for accerleration but I was going about 20mph, so i quickly turn to the right and I mis judge the turn cause it was a bit tight, the drives side tire hits the outside curb I then mildly lose control and hit the little tree and go over the mini medium which is a bit higher than anybody would really think. and then I come out the other side and thats when its like oh... ${-}!7, but yeah thats the main story on how it happened. I know you guys can't give complete diagnosis over the internet but I love the suggestions I have been getting. Hopefully I should be getting a wheel alignment today because I got new rims and tires. The guy at the tire place told me that the oil cooler was a little bent back so they bent it up a little so it wouldn't rub with the tires. Thank You

"Either way, its not like 1st qt tests are comming up soon. " I am not to sure what to make of that.

And for you asking, no I am not going to get that tree fixed. thank you

People make dumb mistakes, I've done similar. Here's my advice.

1. Get the adjustor to take a look at the car and then take it to a reputable shop and get the suspension/bodywork sorted. Get an alignment and MAKE SURE the specs are normal, don't let them half *** it and not check all the compoenents that might be bent.

2. GET YOUR *** TO AUTOCROSS SCHOOL. Learn how to handle the car and the driving dynamics so you don't step tail out and hit a kid on a bike next time instead of a tree. I'm glad you didn't buy a S2000.

I ment that this wreck would be stressfull.... and first Q tests are also stressfull, if not more important. So GL on the tests, and getting the car fixed.

"ok than that that, what does this mean?"
And you sure your not smoking something? Cause that that there that sentance could realy could be using that there that grammer fix I suggest.
