Brake cleaner for oil spills?

This morning I was topping off oil on the 8. As I proceeded to tip the bottle I miss aligned the spout of the oil to engine's spout . May I use brake cleaner to get rid of the excess oil? How would this affect the hoses among other things?

Use a carburator/throttle body cleaner in spray form, it's a great oil solvent and is considered mostly safe on rubber since it's made to be sprayed in the engine bay, keep it the hell away from any paint or finish though because it's really good at cleaning them off your bodywork. The big plus is it won't dry to a sticky paste that attracts dirt, brake fluid will so it's like trying to get a red wine stain off of clothes with spaghetti sauce.

Why not just buy a bottle of engine degreaser?

because to use that you need to spray down your engine with water later?

I've sprayed my engine down with no problem at the pressure washer. I just leave the car running. The only problem I've had is getting the spray too close to the sound dampning material. It will degrade that in a hurry. I sprayed mine after spilling oil on it myself.

I spray mine about twice a year with the pressure washer at the coin car wash. I haven't had any problems.

Spilled oil will NOT damage your car or engine in any way

On the other hand, water and, more importantly, water under pressure WILL damage your engine's electrical systems, sooner or later.....

Talking from experience....
