Talking Bought an RX-8 on Friday!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself to the board. You all sound like a pretty close group, and just like my other groups I frequent (svtperformance.com as well as probetalk), this place is a vast knowledge of wisdom about these cars. I've also got a 97 Cobra convertable, as well as a 97 Probe...which is hardly considered a car right now The RX-8 is definetely my 3-seaons daily driver!

It's a different feeling jumping to the 8, because rotary engines REALLY are completely different in their operation. All the sudden, all the knowledge of pistons, cams and valves, as well as cylinder displacement seems useless. I feel like I'm learning about cars ALL over again! it's pretty awesome really!

Enough about me though...

Bought a 2005 velocity red RX-8. Manual 6, Grand Touring pkg, rear spoiler, 6-disc, and that unmistakable NEW car smell! (first new car).

Being an 05, it came with an unbelievable NINE miles on it in the middle of 2006! Because of the year depriciation value, as well as a slow rainy day, I was able to get um down to LESS then $26K!!

Congrats Stavesacre21!! You're gonna love this car. I just turned 75k w/ no major probs. Main thing is to not trust repairs, regardless of type, to mechanics w/o experience w/ RX's. There are some quirks that would throw them that wouldn't phase an RX guy. - Gary, SoCal

Thanx for the welcome guys!

As for the comment about repairs...mazda's going be doin ALLLLL them for the next 7 years/100K miles. I paid a good amount for a huge extended warrenty because i'd heard about the prices to repair these engines.

Can't wait to break her in a lil more. Speaking of...is there any specific break-in for the car? The dealer told me no, but I'm not sure as though he knew a ton about thr rotary.

Any advice?

Most people here follow the Break-In procedure described in this site.

there was thread about this couple of weeks ago.... its around 5-10 seconds, and its for preventing flooding, due to shutting the car off in cold weather.... but if the car is fully warmed up you don't have to do it....

No joke...the last time I went back to the dealership, the salesman that I was working with again commented on how he couldn't believe the store manager allowed the price to drop so low...

I still have a feeling that he's still carrying out the pitch...but considering it's done, is the chirade still worth the time? I will admit that an excess of almost $7K knocked off ANY new car, much less Mazda's flagstaff car is without a doubt, impressive.

I always stood by the fact that if I ever bought a "new" car it would be an end-of-the year deal like this, but I would have never expected it to be such a KILLER deal! Ironically, I used to be a new-car basher, because I didn't see the point to buying a car new then driving $3-4K off the car the second yur off the lot. However, conisdering how I could probably turn around and sell it for the same price now, I'm not complaining one but

In the 4 days i've owned it, the ONE and ONLY gripe that I have about the car is...HEADROOM. Everything else is just stellar...but man, my hair just barely brushes the roof just enough to totally annoy you. I've tilted the seat back a hair to take that pressure off, but then yur a lil far from the wheel. Still...not near enough of an issue for me to go through a bout of buyer's remorse. Still love my 8!

Congrats on the new car. I found the same problem when I was shopping for my 8 in regards to headroom. I ended up getting one with the sport package (no sunroof / cloth seats) and I swear there's about 6 more inches!
